Aside from Memento and The Prestige, Christopher Nolan is a genuinely bad filmmaker

That he is one of the most celebrated directors of our time is a sign of how stupid people are. His films have terrible, muddled storytelling and unnecessarily confusing plots. The dialogue and acting in his Batman films was horrible.

reply

I completely disagree. He is one of the best filmmakers working today. He has never made a bad film.

reply

The Dark Knight and its sequel were awful

reply

No they are not.

reply

Glad we cleared that up!

reply

I disagree. I thought they were excellent. They got good reviews, were generally well liked and The Dark Knight was nominated for and won awards. You are entitled to your opinion, but you are in the minority on this one.

reply

Hard disagree bud
I haven't seen Tenet yet and Inception was over my head but I really like his other movies
Dunkirk was thrilling and a technical achievement with few peers

His Batman series is amongst the best of all the cape films

reply

That’s ok we can still be boys!

reply

Sho' Nuff

Speaking of boys have you watched The Boys on Prime?
You may not like superheroes but that show is amazing with some really awful 'super'
people...just total bastards, it's a real hoot

reply

Written by the ever dependable Gareth Ennis.

reply

It's such smart writing, it occurred to me while marathoning both seasons that I had a big stupid grin the whole time when I wasn't gasping out of shock😄!

reply

I've been collecting comics for over 40 years now, so this is my territory, lol. Garth Ennis hails from Ireland and got his start in British weekly anthology 2000AD (which is where Judge Dredd came from). If you pick up any graphic novel that he's written, it'll be a hoot. Apparently, he spends most of his time writing scripts whilst sitting in bars drinking Guinness.

reply

Haven’t seen it, I’ll check it out tho!

Lol!

reply

His Batman films are bad according to who? You? What makes you the sole authority on a quality film?

reply

Sorry, completely disagree - I'm a big fan.

reply

Bad vs Good are subjective; I find a rate scale a little more informative.
Rate Nolan on a scale of 1 to 10.

How would you rate these directors in comparison?

Akira Kurosawa
Alfred Hitchcock
Orson Welles
Stanley Kubrick

reply

I wouldn’t even mention them in the same sentence

reply

That would seem to be in poor taste. They have all done films that at least approach the brilliance of Memento. Most of them have even surpassed it!

reply

Do you mean as a director or producer? I've never seen a film of his in either of those categories but I often consider watching Interstellar. I've heard good things about how the science is presented but considering some other films I've heard the same thing about I have a feeling that it may be generally good but not really all it's talked up to be.

reply

Aside from Memento? Why would you discount Memento? He should be celebrated for having constructed that masterpiece. Ignore his other films! Just rewatch Memento!

reply

He's one of the better ones out there. He's not up there with the Kubricks or Paul Thomas Andersons, but he makes entertaining, well-crafted movies.
