Of the National Film Registry´s 775 films, how many have you seen?

It´s a bit tedious to go through but I´ve seen a rather abysmal 139 films.

Recommendations from the list are welcome too.

About 100.

reply

Did you all count through that list?
It looks like I've seen most of them, too many to sit and count.

reply

I like counting.

reply

I don't know why but this made me chuckle😀

reply

I have seen 351 of them.
Of that number, I own 25 on DVD or Blu-ray, so I guess you could call those my recommendations.
They are ...
12 Angry Men (1957)
The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938)
The African Queen (1951)
The Apartment (1960)
Blade Runner (1982)
The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957)
Casablanca (1942)
Chinatown (1974)
The Court Jester (1956)
Dances with Wolves (1990)
The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)
Forbidden Planet (1956)
How the West Was Won (1962)
L.A. Confidential (1997)
La Bamba (1987)
A Night at the Opera (1935)
The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976)
Purple Rain (1984)
Rear Window (1954)
Spartacus (1960)
The Terminator (1984)
The Thing from Another World (1951)
This Is Spinal Tap (1984)
To Kill a Mockingbird (1962)
Twelve O'Clock High (1949)

Somewhat interestingly, I did not plan to buy two of the above listed films. The DVDs for The Bridge on the River Kwai came packaged with The Guns of Navarone (1961) and La Bamba came packaged with The Buddy Holly Story (1978).
Both packages make sense though, as Kwai and Navarone are two great WWII films and of course, Ritchie Valens and Buddy Holly were killed in the same plane crash. The Day the Music Died, indeed.

Did not think much of Twelve O´Clock High. It was watchable but nothing mind blowing. Gregory Peck was good though.

Airplane! Is on the national registry? It's a funny film but really?

Actually 259, but I don't count any movies that I didn't see as an adult, which seemed do mostly consist of Disney movies.

If you type in national registry IMDb list, and then restrict to movies you've seen, you can get a specific number and seconds, no need to count them all. It also might be good to refine what you haven't seen if you're looking for recommendations.

reply

Thanks for the tip. I do like to get MC opinions on movies that are potential "rare gems" though.

reply

I'd be happy to give you recommendations anytime.

reply

Fire away.

reply

Sorry to cut in but 'gems' made me think of the recent Adam Sandler movie Uncut Gems

It's quite tense with a great Sandler performance
If you enjoy watching a guy giving the wrong people enough rope you might really like it

reply

if you tell me your favorite movies or at least genre I could better suggest, so I'll just give you my favorites

Nashville
They shoot horses Don't they

Not ashamed to admit, I don´t have the attention span to endure silent films but I will definitely check out your "talkies" at some point. Thanks.

Besides the movies I recommended, Harold and Maude, McCabe and mrs. Miller are favorites of mine and sweet smell of success is pretty good.
