Has anyone ignored a jury duty summons?

and lived to tell the tale?

I wrote a post similar to this a few months ago. I've never been asked but it's a fear of mine.

No. I have issues with being arrested over something so trivial. Besides, it's not the worst civil service people have done for this country, not by a long shot. Due to updates in technology, it's also easier to find out if the courthouse actually wants you there or not, rather than having to go in over and over again, waiting and waiting.

I've gone in for Jury Duty at least three times since I turned 18, and each time, not only did they not need me, I learned how to be very creative in entertaining myself in a room full of strangers.

I've only been called twice for jury duty. The first time the judge went on and on about how grateful he was that so many people showed up. He said that if he doesn't get enough people he sends one of the deputies out to the Mall to round up jurors.
I guess, "Tag, you're IT!"

There were two trials and they just started picking names at random. I wasn't called. So I was excused with all the others who weren't called. Crazily enough, I was disappointed. I really wanted to be on a jury. No, not one of those year long deals like the O.J. Simpson trial, but a few days would've been interesting.

I got called again a few years later but I was excused again because about sixty people showed up .

It's weird, how they ask for so many people, and yet only use so few. I've never even made it to the interview stage. To be fair, it's not fun to get picked for a jury. According to what my mom and others have told me, you're stuck having to go to the courthouse every time the case you're assigned to is in session, you have to watch the entire thing, you can't talk about it with anyone, you have no control over how the case will turn out, and you gotta vote as to whether the defendant is guilty or not guilty, and that will all depend on what the majority of the jurors think. It gets scary if you were juror in a case involving a high-profile criminal, you help put them away, and their cronies take revenge on everyone involved years later, including the jury.

Amerigirl26-My mom had to serve on a jury that was for a child molester. She said that the testimony was sickening and they all voted guilty.

The cases that I would have served on (if I had been picked) were just local stuff, no big time mobsters. I think it would've been interesting.

Of course I can be so contrary that I might've pulled a "Twelve Angry Men" scenario and been the Henry Fonda character. If everyone voted "guilty", I would've been the one to say, "Let's wait a minute and review all the evidence."
My fellow jurors would've been so mad at me!

I throw them in the trash.

Someone said they don't know what the answer is. Well I got the answer. Millions of people don't want anything to do with jury duty but millions of people do. This would solve the problem. In the upcoming election have on the ballot "Do you want to serve on jury duty?"

You would have plenty of people marking yes to be on juries. All the people who marked no would not be called for jury duty.

That's a very reasonable plan
You should run for office, I'd vote for you and select 'NO' for jury duty!
