Corn on the cob with no pesky silk!

We're getting close to summer and that means, among other things, corn on the cob.

I stumbled upon a great, super easy way to make it, that leaves your cobbed corn without any of those annoying strands of silk, and no shucking either 🌽

You can wash the ears if you want to but I didn't bother. Just pop into the microwave as-is for 4 minutes for 1 ear. Remove with pot holder or oven mitt, and with a sharp knife cut the large end off so you're removing about 2-3 rows.

Then using a second pot holder or oven mitt, push the ear out of its husk jacket and, tah-dah, perfectly cooked corn with no silk!

I'd be happy to but I haven't seen Django Unchained. Come on, microwave some corn on the cob and watch Sleepless in Seattle with me. We can braid one another's hair afterwards. Or during.

No its 8 and 100,000 votes its about 250 but I've seen many of them. I just thought i should try to watch some of those movies i avoided

Quick, you should start a YouTube channel and demonstrate.

But those 2-3 perfectly good removed rows are waving goodbye to you.

I hate arbitrarily wasting food, although I do it all the time.

I should! Except there are already a bunch of them and that's where I found this tip 😀

Not to worry about the poor 2-3 removed rows, I ate them. Just not with butter and S&P on them.

You reminded me of one of my all-time favorite lines from an infomercial. Ron Popeil was demonstrating the Dial-O-Matic food slicer with co-host Maddy Press. He shows how "darn easy" it is to remove corn from the cob. Maddy is SO impressed and says, "My mother used to spend hours cutting her corn! Literally hours!"

Hours to cut corn off the cob? What was the old lady using? Tweezers?

It's so familiar he trademarked the phrase (though the trademark has since expired).

Possibly my all-time favorite line from an infomercial is also from a Dial-O-Matic infomercial, "The only tears you shed...":

I remember Ron Popeil, but not the Dial-O-Matic or Maddy Press (was that a real name?). First one I remember was the chopper thingy. Chop-O-Matic? It slices, it dices! I think that's the one.

You know they call corn-on-the-cob "corn-on-the-cob," right? But that's how it comes out of the ground, man. They should call that "corn", and they should call every other version "corn-off-the-cob." It's not like if you cut off my arm you would call my arm "Mitch", but then reattach it and call it "Mitch-all-together."

Ha ha, excellent point! Lots of fruit have pits, but we don't say peach on the pit.

It really does. Maybe everyone else knows about it but it was news to me, and makes cooking corn on the cob (or, as ODB82 points out, corn) so much easier and better.
