Here's a (probably) silly Covid-19 question 🤔

If the virus survives on surfaces for 2 hours to 9 days (depending on the surface) is it necessary to sanitize businesses that have been closed for a month? I mean, if nobody's been inside the business for weeks, does it really need to be cleaned? I've read stories of shopping centers that are getting ready to re-open and are sanitizing everything, but if they've been closed for six weeks, why? Or are they just being overly cautious?

reply

Like praying, it's for calming the minds. Still better than doing nothing.

reply

Stuff settles... regardless of Covid after 6 weeks you want to wipe it down.

reply

Public peace of mind.

reply

Cleaning - yes, sanitizing -no, but they will do it anyhow.

reply

like a lot of the airport restrictions we have now - giving 85 yr old grannies pat-downs, making you throw out your bottled water - it's likely mainly more for show.

i'm still going into work every day, and they gave me a box of wipes & disinfectant & instructions to make sure i wiped down my surfaces first thing when i get to my desk.

but i'm the only person still coming in to work in my area, and no one is coming into my space during off hours, so that's almost certainly a pointless thing to do.

but i still do it, even if it's only to show hr that i'm using up the wipes they allotted me.

Think about this scenario:

Monday you touch something outside with the virus and touch your desk when you arrive. Tuesday you don't wipe down your desk, but the virus still survives which you touch. It's now on your hands when you rub your eyes.

reply

a fair point.
i do wash my hands first thing after coming in, but there's still a risk of course.

reply

you gotta clean the dust anyways, and this thing isn't going away, i'm sure it would be standard to sanitize when they do reopen

reply

Well, true. General cleaning would be needed after several weeks of being closed. And yes, continuous sanitizing would be necessary once they re-open.

reply

You should still clean and sanitize businesses that have been closed for a month because of bugs and rodents making their homes there.
