I am becoming increasingly frustrated with movies that have low dialogue but have loud music/sfx.

I've made a post about this before on these boards but damn it it's driving me insane. I just want to watch a film where I can hear the dialogue without sound effects and music busting my speakers. It's driving me bananas, bonkers, up the wall, 6s and 7s, nuts and any other term associated with frustration.

I've heard that studios try to save money by producing only one sound mix today, so that the theatre mix is also provided on Blu-ray and streaming. I have no idea if this is a plausible theory.

To counter it, I use headphones, subtitles or the compressor function on VLC Player. The compressor is probably the best option, when it works.

I have a Blu-ray player with a USB slot in the front and a PlayStation. Unfortunately none of them give me a good option to impress the sound. Even certain movies when I watch them on a computer.

I watch movies through VLC and would love to know what compressor settings you use.

This sounds incredibly annoying! The dialogue (and by extension the plot) is by far the most important thing.
maybe they dont do story any more , just explosions an shit

I noticed this with "Watchmen" , which was the last time i watched a superhero film.

I may just stick with foreign movies where I can just read the subtitles.

Not sure what you mean, some examples?

This didn't help me fix the problem, but here is an example: https://youtu.be/pYSHFExHE48

๐Ÿ‘ Watching older movies you notice almost no or very limited soundtracks. Music was mostly used when there was no dialogue.

Now most movies have almost CONSTANT music, growing louder to enhance emotional empact.

It is just a lazy tool in my mind to create a emotional response from the audience.

Most of these new movies if viewed WITHOUT the music the audience becomes painfully aware of the bad dialogue. The music kind of hides it. (The movie Elysium (2013) comes to mind)

I agree completely.

It is very unpleasant. With some movies I must quite often calibrate the sound..๐Ÿคจ
