Does anyone else rarely watch TV shows?

I much prefer movies over TV. I know there will be an ending and it won't get cancelled. If the movie starts off good but then it starts to suck, I only have to sit through the remainder of the duration compared to a TV show where I would have to sit through episodes and seasons just to find out what happens because of all the time I've already spent watching it. Movies don't have to fill a quota of extending storylines just because it got a certain amount of episodes ordered. Unless it's a sequel, movies don't have to worry about actors leaving because of contract disputes and then getting a replacement that you don't like.

Movies all the way!

I’m staying at my pop’s place right now until it gets sold and we don’t have cable or internet connection, just a DVD player. All we watch are movies and I don’t hate it at all. I must admit I do miss 90 day fiancé but otherwise it’s great and my dvd collection is steadily growing.

I feel like I accomplished more watching 4 movies in a day than binge watching 10 episodes of the same show. I get different stories, moods, visions, creating decisions and actors. TV just seems like "oh you like this? Well, here's more of the same. And come back next year where you can see a further 12 of the same."

reply

If it's good, then I don't mind getting more of the same. I do prefer short seasons.

reply

For me, very rarely is a show consistently good every season though.

reply

I've noticed that most shows seem to decline after the 3rd season and then after the 5th season.

reply

I don't watch network shows anymore.

reply

It's very rare that I'll watch a show and even more rare that I watch a network one.

I WATCH A HEADY MIX OF MOVIES AND TV SHOWS...ALL ON DISC HOWEVER...I HATE COMMERCIALS AND SEASON BREAKS AND WEEKS BETWEEN EPISODES...I NEVER WATCH TV ON TV.

reply

I only have cable for sports.

reply

I ONLY USE IT FOR LAKER GAMES AND COVERAGE...THE WIFE MUST HAVE IT FOR BRAVO TV.

reply

I used to work for a cable company and had their entire lineup for free. I still never watched anything. Now since streaming has come around I watch great movies all the time. Love it.

reply

I have a TV but since I don't have or want cable TV I use it just for watching movies that I borrow from my local library.

reply

So you get on without shows?

reply

The recent TV show suck.

1/ A lot of TV shows are drenched in political propaganda now. That puts me off it the most.
2/ Most TV shows have about 3 good seasons and then go down hill as they try and keep breathing new life into a spent idea.
3/ TV shows get cancelled.
4/ I find the writing in them to be terrible.

Even with movies I would prefer to watch older films as I just want escape and entertainment and I find they are better written and acted then films today.

reply

I pretty much agree with everything you said. I prefer to watch old movies but I'd still take new movies over TV of any era.

reply

I am the opposite as I watch more TV shows than movies. I prefer the longer format as it gives time to tell stories more completely. Movies usually feel rushed to me with too much crammed into too little time and too much left out. There are many exceptions of course.

I've gone through spells when I didn't watch tv at all and it was only films for me..And I definitely put an end to even considering network broadcast shows. So I get that.
But films frustrate me these days because they're so many and I often have a hard time finding one that's able to entertain me. Sometimes it feels like a chore.
Often I revert to old movies..

Sometimes I do just want to spend an couple of hours with one thing but I do think there's a lot of good tv content out there in the last decade or so. There's a reason it's considered "the golden age"..
Usually I watch tv shows that have already got their heels dug in before I give them a shot..Breaking Bad, The Americans, Ray Donavan and Justified were into their 2nd seasons before I started them and Six Feet Under had been off the air for 5 years before I discovered it.

I think one of my favorite things is characterization and the right show can do this much better than most 2 hour movies. So rather than endless searching it's nice to find a good one to become invested in and to follow.
For me anyway.

It seems to me that you're picking the right shows to watch. They all had finales and were all well-received. I think it's better to wait until you know what you're getting yourself in to.

reply

I'm with you.

I'm watching Stranger Things and was into the walking dead for a few seasons and followed Game of Thrones all the way to the end. There have been a few others that I got into over the years. Generally though, it's movies for me. Most TV shows, they tend to stretch the storylines out a bit to fill their seasons. Or nothing really gets resolved and they start repeating themselves like the Walking Dead, because they want to keep the show going even when most of the life is out of it.

I can't think of a show where I have loved every single season. Thre are shows that have had all good seasons, but they always have seasons considerably better than others. I can't think of a consistent show I loved all the way through.

I just finished watching "Watchmen" yesterday and I was glad it was over. It was only 9 episodes but it just dragged. I didn't get anything more there that I didn't get from the movie.
