Your antidote to the blues

The world is one giant hairy ballsack for us all at times, so what do you do to pull yourself out of a funk when life gets you down? Watch a favourite movie? Listen to your favourite death metal band? Maybe something more creative..

For me it’s swimming in the ocean. Something about diving under crashing waves just blasts the bad mood right out of me. I tend to be grumpier in Winter.

Get out my It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia dvds and have a belly laugh

😂hairy ballsack indeed!! Depends on what kindof funk I’m in. If I’m super pissed, i like to drive and listen to hip-hop. If I’m sad, sex and/or ice cream cheers me up. If I’m just feeling funky, a nice walk with my gorgeous dog helps. All of these things paired with a nice sativa usually does the trick.

Birdwatching.

Really!

Going out in the woods and concentrating on something innocent really helps me cope with this fucked-up planet. Plus the intense concentration it takes to sneak up on wary little creatures does take my mind off my worries for a while, it makes a difference.

I'm with you Otter

I've often taken my binoculars on fishing trips and when the bites got slow I've spotted all sorts of cool birds in the woods and marsh areas...
Scarlet Tanagers, Bald Eagles, Yellow Shafted Flickers...that's a real bird, a woodpecker actually LOL...Yellow Shafted Woodpecker!
Try not to laugh at that name😃

Birding is fun

reply

They're trying to take all the fun out of the "shafted" woodpeckers by calling them the "northern flickers" now. Foo.

But yeah, birding and wildlife photography is a great stress reliever. I have a very high-stress job, and birding and wildlife photography undo the damage. Trying to photograph butterflies the size of my thumbnail and no intent to cooperate takes a LOT of concentration, which is puts the mind hard at work on creating beauty and appreciating the innocent and wonderful. I recommend it to anyone.

reply

I've never met anyone who would dare take the fun out of the name 'shafted woodpecker!'

Seriously though, I admire your photographic pursuits
It's a fine thing to have a proper passion

I get it

absolutely second this. not birdwatching specifically, but getting out in nature, in green areas, appreciating the world around us.

not to sound like some kumbaya-ish hippie, but there is a great perspective that comes from watching even the smallest creatures. stop and watch ants for a while, appreciate their remarkable societies & their incredible abilities. i think it instills an almost spiritual awe in the world we share, & an understanding of just how small & unimportant you really are. that may sound deflating, but i don't think it is. there's something very liberating & freeing that comes from a recognition that you are absolutely, utterly trivial & that whatever indignities you might have suffered any given day, they are completely inconsequential & forgettable.

spending more time with ants & reading about ants & thinking about ants is very good therapy, i believe.

Exactly. Nice job.

I don't get the blues, I try to stay happy and healthy. So far it works. If I'm having a down day I watch my DVD of Some Like It Hot.

Funky music, wine or any lager and a bit of coke. Once a fortnight usually does it 🍻

My dog. My cat. Nature. Hikes. Dancing. Singing in my car.

Pets make me happier too.
