I hereby declare the 1980s as the absolute worst decade for music and movies.

The 80s had some classic movies: Back to the Future, Die Hard, The Breakfast Club. They also had some classic albums: Michael Jackson's "Thriller", U2's "The Josua Tree", Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the U.S.A." None of these are enough to save the utterly abysmal decade knows as the '80s.

It's the most dated decade. Who thought synthesizers in music was going to be a good idea? Those awful drum machines weren't pleasant on the ear either. How about those weird lasers you would see in music videos.

80% of the movies had such a boring feel to them with music completely out of place. Gunshots in movies all sounded the same and didn't sound like gunshots at all. Every actor playing a cop had a mustache and were all "loose cannons".

The '80s were not kind to us.

Electronic music really peaked in the mid 90’s but was on the rise in the late 80’s.

Also whatever people may think about rap, at least in the 80’s you could understand the lyrics and it was not as profane. :)

Yeah rap in the 80s was better than it is now. Other than Bowie, I pretty much dislike all those bands you mentioned.

reply

There’s still hope for you. You may change your mind one day. 😊

reply

can i ask how old you were in the 80s?

reply

I was born in the early 80s.

reply

Then I guess you haven't listened to the radio since 1989
The 80's were great - pop, new wave, dance - all good stuff

reply

I think new wave is awful. I think there's a reason it died off so quick.

reply

Nah, There's so many great movies from the 80s like

Die Hard, Robocop, Predator, Lethal Weapon, Aliens, Cop, Red Heat, Victory, Lock Up, Highlander, Outland, Code of Silence, Witness, Drugstore Cowboy, Talk Radio, The Falcon and the Snowman, They Live, Big Trouble in Little China, Glory, Year of the Dragon, Blue Velvet, Full Metal Jacket, Hamburger Hill, Angel Heart, Blood Simple, The Color of Money, Platoon, Blow Out, Casualties of War, The Lost Boys, Frantic, Something Wild, The Hitcher, Batman, Midnight Run, Urban Cowboy, At Close Range, The Package, Deathtrap, The Holcroft Covenant, The Untouchables, Near Dark, Sharky's Machine, Beverly Hills Cop

reply

I agree that there are. But it terms of amount, it's low compared to others. And even the good ones are dated.

reply

I think U2 had a ton of great songs in the 80s

reply

The 80s gave birth to Hair Metal, so....um....so there!

reply

Spinal Tap metal is better than all that.

reply

Guns n Roses - Appetite for Destruction

reply

They go to 11!

reply

Imma let you finish... but 1987 had GnR's Appetite for Destruction, the greatest album of all time. Of. All. Time.

reply

Imma let you finish... but Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti is the greatest album of all time.

reply

Movies in the 80s were far better. I have said it before but the Avengers..Transformers... iron man are not good movies. I'll take the breakfast club or clash of the titans anyday. Music not so much. If you play the game SongPop you hear the 80s again in a whole new bad light. The 90s ruled for Music.

reply

I agree that 80s music was worse than their movies.
