Who are your favourite "oh, that person!" in movies?

You know, those people who show up in movies and you know you've seen them someplace.

He is one of those actors but not for me personally because I'm a huge fan of Paul Thomas Anderson and he's in his first three films.

reply

He doesn't judge a man by the length of his hair or the kind of music he listens to. But you put on a pair of shoes when you walk into the New York Public Library!

reply

That is one tough monkey..

reply

Leland Orser.

reply

It took me forever to find out his name. I used to keep saying: "that guy from Taken".

reply

And I still can't remember his name! For me he's that guy from Se7en. I do remember that he used to be married to that Irish chick from Touched by an Angel.

The thing is that he's just famous enough to ruin a twist like the one in The Bone Collector.

reply

he was great in Faults (2014) - a movie no one has seen.

reply

Me neither!

reply

Shae Wigham, that dude seems to have small roles in everything. I first saw him in tigerland and he shows up in so many movies.

He seems to be more famous after boardwalk empire.

reply

Yeah. He only had small parts early in his career, but the guy has been getting big roles in the last 10 years.

reply

Beth Grant.

EDIT: Totally missed you already mentioned her!

Lois Smith

reply

She's a good one. Other than Minority Report, I can't remember what else I saw her in.

reply

She was in Twister, Fatal Attraction, and also Lady Bird to name a few others.

reply

I saw Twister and Lady Bird and don't remember her in those. I guess that's what makes her one of those character actors.

reply

She was Aunt Meg in Twister.

reply

I know exactly what you mean, Clark and Martindale are both great examples
I call them 'That Guy' or 'That Lady'

In a way these sort of actors are as important as the big, iconic stars as they very deftly fill out the smaller side parts in films...The hero cop is always going to need a partner in the patrol car, that sort of thing...I respect these 'That Guy' actors as much as the super stars

reply

They're all unsung heroes.

reply

Agreed
We're so busy throwing roses and accolades at the Streeps and Clooneys of the world that it's easy to forget the excellent supporting actors who make movies work

Cheers to the actors we can't really name but have loved in a hundred different films🍺🍺

He's a legend in my book.

reply

very good list you've put together. lots of people where you know the face automatically, but often don't know the name.

the recently deceased dick miller
