Landon, Mall Of America Boy victim

For those who are wondering about Landon, the 5 year old boy who was Thrown from a railing at Mall Of America and fell over 30 feet; here is a recent update on his condition.
The news truly sounds like a miracle. Here is an article By Christina Palladino, FOX 9 News

Doctors were amazed': Test results of boy thrown at MOA called miraculous
According to Mac Hammond, a pastor at the family's church, the boy recently underwent a five-hour MRI test.
"There was zero evidence of brain damage - there wasn't even swelling," Hammond said. "No spinal cord injury, no nerve damage, no internal injuries that were life-threatening."
Hammond said that the boy did suffer several broken bones.
The pastor also said a doctor compared the boy's injuries to falling off a bicycle rather than falling three stories.
Meanwhile, the GoFundMe set up for the boy has reached more than $970,000, with a goal of $1 million. Here is a link to the article, video, and the GoFundMe page

On Easter Weekend I saw the movie "Breakthrough" about the 14 year old boy who recovered after being under water for over 15 minutes. I highly recommend the movie.
It shows that miracles can and do happen.
I prayed for a miracle for Landon as did so many others. I believe it is coming true.

They only need about $300,000 to reach the million dollar goal. If you havnt considered making a donation, please consider doing so. I have made my donation. Small or large, it will be appreciated. Your prayers are appreciated as well. It costs you nothing.

I would say that even though his recovery is looking good, the money will assure that he can get the BEST treatment possible.

The "animal" who threw the boy, 24-year-old Emmanuel Aranda, is charged with first degree attempted premeditated murder. I sincerely hope he gets the death penalty.
He WANTED to kill that day. I am SO grateful he didn't succeed.
From ME he deserves no mercy. How could ANYONE do this to a kid or anyone else for that matter.

And NO I dont have any connection to the family. I just hate seeing crimes against kids.

reply

There is no death penalty in Minnesota.

reply

Was a motive mentioned?
Such an insane act to take against anyone, let alone a little kid

reply

Aranda told police he went to the mall on Thursday with homicidal intent, but it “didn’t’ work out,” the Star Tribune reports. He then returned on Friday. Aranda told detectives he wanted to kill an adult, but he chose the victim instead.” Aranda told police he had been going to the mall for several years and “had made efforts to talk to women in the Mall, but had been rejected, and the rejection caused him to lash out and to be aggressive.”

reply

Wow...clearly troubled and dangerous
Scary stuff

He needs a long time locked away and in therapy, maybe never to be released again
Why take chances?

reply

He had previously been banned from the mall as well. Guy definitely has some issues. Unfortunately for him, prison doesn't treat those who harm children well.

reply

Phew!
Horrible story

reply

Put him in a prison on an upper level (at least 3 stories) with a railing overlooking a common area.
Have another inmate go and push him over the railing and watch him go SPLAT.
I would enjoy seeing that.
Now I wouldn't offer any medical attention to him but that wouldn't happen.
I would certainly applaud the guy who did it.
A simple death sentence or life in prison is just not fitting.

BTW WHY was he banned from the mall?
Why was he there, and able to be there for 2 days straight.
If someone is banned from a place and there is no ability to enforce such a ban, then what is the point; or is someone not doing their job?
If this is true, such a thing might have been avoided, at least THIS incident.
I will be interested to see if there is further action against the mall (security).

reply

It sounds like it wasn't a permanent ban. Even if it was a lifetime ban, I'm guessing it wouldn't be hard to slip in unnoticed given the size of The Mall of America.

"Court records show Aranda had been banned from the mall for about a year in mid-2015. He was convicted of two misdemeanors stemming from incidents there in 2015.

Aranda was charged in July 2015 with causing damage inside stores after he threw items off the upper level of the mall to the lower level, court records obtained by CNN affiliate WCCO show.

Three months later, he was accused of throwing glasses of ice water and tea at a woman in a restaurant at the mall after she refused to buy him food, the records show.

In that incident, he got into a scuffle with the manager of the restaurant, sending panicked diners fleeing, court records show."

reply

So I guess he liked throwing things over the railing from the upper level.
That in itself poses a serious hazard to those below, depending on what is thrown.
Secondly, he felt "rejected" by women........... what.............because they wouldn't buy HIM food?

I see that over time, such a ban would lose any sort of effectiveness. That's sad. They had good reason to do so. Its definite that he posed a hazard not just a nuisance.

I will try to look into this matter further. I;m sure that much of this will come up in court. The question is, will we her about it?
Thanks for doing some "homework" on the subject.

reply

This doesnt even qualify as a lame explanation of anything. But I know its the excuse he gave.
Its a HATE CRIME.
If a guy is P.O'ed with WOMEN, why would you take out your venom on a 5YO BOY.
A kid is innocent and defenseless. He was an EASY target. He was in a vulnerable spot at an opportune moment. It took little effort to pick him up and throw him over the railing. Its BEYOND cowardly.
The fact that we WENT to the mall to kill, for MORE than ONE day says something else to me. Maybe we will learn more in the future.

I intend to follow this case as long as possible. I hope they will continue to update us.

reply

A quick apology; his name is spelled LANDEN. Sorry for the typo.

reply

If they've collected $970,000 they are $30,000 short of a million. Not 300,000.

reply

Thank You
I see I made more than one error. Nevertheless my intentions were good. The amount collected shows on GoFundMe and the amount needed to reach the goal continues to decrease thanks to everyone's generosity.
Currently they need less than $11,500. It continues to drop,
Thanks to everyone who helped.

reply

Thank God he was a small child.

I think the force that someone hits the ground is increased by a factor of 3 with each doubling of weight.

I probably weigh about 5 times what this 5 yr old weighs so I'd hit the ground with 125 times the force.

That's why I could jump off the roof of my house when I was a kid and not get hurt.

reply

That is a good point.
A lot depends on how a person lands as well.
For those who didnt follow the story from the beginning, he was considered in critical condition for the first several days. A story I read said he was bleeding from the head which concerned me the most.
My biggest fear was brain damage. I guess the scans showed that there didn't appear to be significant damage.
He is sedated right now to keep him out of pain and mobility while things start to heal.
Another good things is that kids are growing and generally heal better than older people.
I just cant loose sight of what could have happened.
I wonder how he will be effected emotionally. Fears may go away in time, but I can understand that he may be fearful for a while. I know I would be.

reply

Please keep in mind that the pastor, Mac Hammond, was not authorized to speak about Landen's condition. The family has neither confirmed nor denied his comments. Sorry, but it bugs me when people outside the situation feel the need to make such announcements. It's up to the family to do so, at their own comfort level. Either way, Landen has a long road to recovery and I wish him and his family the best.

reply

So are you saying that the families pastor is disrespecting the families wishes?
I would not post something if I thought that it was in any way not in line with the families wishes.
I simply found this with a Google search to find the most up to date info I could find at the time. I was tired of sites that would show part of a story then ask me to pay for or subscribe to something. Some had hoops to jump through to see things.
This was a originally a post from Christina Palladino, FOX 9 News. It mentioned the pastor and had a video as well. I would think, of all people, that the pastor would not say or do something that the family would disapprove of. What he was reporting on was a doctors scan findings.
What I DO see now that Christina Palladino, FOX 9 News has an updated article.
What was not mentioned in the previous article was the facial injuries Landen had.
Further the DOCTORS explain how and why Landen might have survived and not sustained more serious internal injuries.

I sincerely apologize if I posted something that was not OK with the family.
I have posted the current link in good faith. If it is not OK, it is the media that needs to account for that.
The MANY people who have contributed and prayed for Landon seriously care about him. We cant see him but we are concerned and wish him the VERY BEST treatment possible. I hope our prayers and contributions will help ease the situation and provide for an eventual complete recovery.

I appreciate all who have responded. I hope we all have his best interests at heart.

reply

I'm sorry; I didn't intend to make you feel bad about what you posted. I understand your wish to deliver some positive news about Landen since many of us are concerned. I know your intentions were good. The fault lies with the pastor who was apparently speaking out of turn. I'd have thought that a pastor, of all people, would have cleared it with the family before he said anything. I just think he showed a lack of respect for the family's privacy. I feel it's up to them or their attorney to talk about Landen's condition.

reply

I appreciate your letting me know.
Like yourself, I thought that info coming from the families pastor would be sensitive to their situation. i DID find it kind of odd that it seemed to minimize the extent of the problems he faces at this point.
I wanted to bring some positive attention to the GoFundMe page which at this point is just a bit more that $5000 away from their goal. THIS IS GREAT.
I didnt want people to think that the money wasn't needed at this point.
I have no idea what insurance they have. However I am aware that MANY plans have limits on hospitals, doctors and other types of care.
There are deductibles, co Pays limits of coverage etc.
I would like to see them be able to chose the BEST doctors and facilities for Landen. This money is for his expenses and care. It will assure that he van get the best care possible.
Thanks for the reply.

The latest I learned tonight from local news here in MN is that Landen is out of critical condition, is alert and conscious, but is still facing a long road to recovery, including additional surgeries. The family is hoping he will be home sometime in June.

reply

THANK YOU for the update. This is GREAT news at this point.
If you have checked the GoFundMe account, it has surpassed the million dollar mark and is still going strong. 8 thousand + over at this posting.
I hope with this funding, the family will seek out the top surgeons and medical professionals possible to give him the best chances for a full recovery.
I know too that the family appreciates peoples prayers. They mean a lot.
Its evident that people DO care GREATLY about Landen and the family.
This may well be one of the top most successful campaigns for a single individual.
I DO hope that when things stabilize a bit more and settle down, the family will go public and thank everyone for their generous support. I would love to hear continued updates on his progress.
Like everyone, I just pray for a day when he will be able to be a happy and healthy little boy again. I have faith that this will happen for him.
Evil shouldn't triumph here.
If you have any further updates, please share them with us.

You can thank obama for importing all those Somalians into Minnesota. Poor kid needed some multicultural diversity in his life and obama gave it to him...

reply

An ugly statement, and I'm not a big Obama fan
A little boy was tossed three stories off a railing by a mentally disturbed maniac...do we need to politicize this?
The boy seems ok and the loon is in lock-up

reply

That poor kid will probably never be the same. The loon should have been locked up & deported long ago for his previous crimes and this would have never happened

reply

Please read my statements below.
I believe in our optimism to see Landen OK there may have been some OVER optimism in some of the reporting of Landens condition.
I HATE to think that this was a ministers attempt to lead us to believe that things were better than they were. But it sounded a bit too good to be true.

The statement you were replying to came to my attention and I found evidence that there was a rumor started about the guy being a Somalian Emigrant. That appears to be fake news. Probably started in attempt to influence opinions about illegal immigration.
I wholeheartedly agree that we need to tighten up our boarders and who comes into and who is already in our country as well as what are their intentions.
What I read was that Emmanuel Aranda was from Chicago and has a history of violent abusive behavior.
Sorry, I dont cut any slack for his behavior or circumstances. MANY of us have things that negatively influence our lives. I am learning to have faith in God. It hasn't harmed me and I feel more at peace with things. Acts like this still disturb me. Im human. Im not perfect. I dont take my anger and wrath out on children and i dont like those who do.
I leave forgiveness to a higher power that hopefully sees and knows a lot more than I ever will.

reply

I am writing this out of concerns that I may have posted something, in good faith, that did not accurately reflect the seriousness of Landens current condition.
My original intent was to post something here that was current and something where we might make a difference in someone life a positive way.
There is too much or the same old, same old stuff here that we can do nothing about but bicker. Coming to the support of an injured child is something that we all can agree on.
I dont know if anyone before me had posted anything on this subject.
What I was looking for was something CURRENT at the time.
what I may have found seemed genuine enough. It seemed like a miracle. One we might all hope for. I know that I prayed for that along with many others.
We hear the words "fake news" today. That I DIDNT want. Im not saying the news was Fake, I DO feel that it was biased on the side of optimism and failed to include the serious aspects of his current condition. I had heard from other sources that he was out of intensive care. This appears that it may not be true. Im deeply sorry if I mislead anyone and I feel mislead if it is not accurate. Like anyone else, i relay on what I read. We know that everything we read is not always accurate and not necessarily up to date.
If I failed to provide accurate info, i again apologize.
If I violated any of the families wishes, I SINCERELY apologize as well.
I know that so many have taken the time to to generously and unselfishly donate to help Landon and his family through this difficult time. We prayed for him. I truly believe this mattered and we all know the donations speak for themselves of peoples caring. Medical treatment such as this doesnt come cheap. World class care is what is needed and deserved. Finances shouldn't be an obstacle if we can help it and we HAVE helped.

To be continued

reply

People took up a collection and donated. They did it out of caring and concern and just being GOOD people. What we ALL want is to know and see that our efforts are not in vain. We want to see a miracle. We want him to be well and happy.
Seeing something of good progress was encouraging. I never wanted to take away from the seriousness that lies ahead. This is where our generosity and prayers will mean the most.
We just all hope that one day Landon will be well again.
NOBODY deserves this sort of act that devastated his and his families life. I HATE seeing kids suffer. I HATE this sort of senseless violence against anyone.
THANK YOU to those who have been supportive and thank you to those who provided information. I hope to provide accurate information that will help all of us understand and see that we have made a difference in a positive way.
I hope that if the family ever reads this, they will understand that our hearts go out to them.
Thanks For reading and Understanding
