My Dumbo Review

Every single actor thinks they're in a different film. Burton adds no flair which is a real shame considering the slump he's in as of late. Visually Dumbo is haunting, If i was a kid I'd be horrified by him. The script is a mess, what can you expect from the guy who wrote Transformers 2-4? These last 3 reboots have been meh. Not good, not bad, just kind of there. But hey! at least we have Will Smith genie to look forward to.

I’ve always been lukewarm on Burton. I have to say that a “haunting” Dumbo sounds very intriguing.

reply

Burton has been sucking since Sleepy Hollow.

reply

While i understand no one can stay on top indefinitely i'm always gonna be baffled over how he managed to make the worst "adaptation" of Alice In Wonderland in film history, i know his imagination has wittered over time but jeez that should've been like ice cream on a sunny day, impossible to fail. He should've been born to direct that but no one has ever managed to suck the wonder out of alice in wonderland like him. What in the world happened to the man.

reply

I can't watch that movie, Johnny Depp creeps me out.

reply

Yeah, i can see why, most of his roles are that way.

reply

But his role as the Mad Hatter was extra creepy! Just like his role as Willy Wonka!

reply

That dancing scene is kinda indescribable XD

Having read both your review and another review of the re-make of the movie "Dumbo", and seen an online trailer of this film, I will not be going to see it.

reply

Audiences, 54% of whom are female, are reportedly giving it an A-.

reply

To each their own. I happen to be a female, and will not be going to see the re-make of the film "Dumbo".

reply

Maybe you'd like it.

It is mostly white male critics who are giving it bad reviews, and yet the audience, most of which seems to be composed of females, appear to LOVE it. 🙂

Shame we keep listening to these guys.

reply

Sorry, MalkovichMalkovi, but I did see the online trailer of the "Dumbo" re-make, and was not impressed.

reply

Well, one can never be sure from a trailer.

reply

Frankly, most re-makes of older movies come out quite badly, and this one seems to be no exception. The fact that the "Dumbo" re-make received a 2/5 rating doesn't bode well for it.

reply

2/5 from whom?

It got 4/5 from 'Empire', a magazine I tend to trust on balance.

reply

The 2/5 rating is on movie chat.org, before you come onto this General Discussion forum, at the beginning, on Liam de blogs.

A mediocre 6.8 on IMDB, and ** from Christy Lemire on RogerEbert.com.

reply

Audience members are giving it an A-.

Have you seen it?

😎

reply

I want to, but I've got nobody to go with.

My 4-year-old nephew isn't as disciplined and as able to sit still as I was at that age, and I'd feel weird attending a family/kids' film by myself, especially if there are kids and families in the audience.

Maybe that's why this film isn't doing as well as anticipated. Long-time Burton fans like me are put off from going to see it alone for fear of being thought of as pedos.

We'll see. Maybe I'll try to catch a matinee this week when most kids are still in school.

reply

Don't worry what other people think, Mal. As the Nike commercial says "Just do it."

😎

reply

I might go this week.

Just do it, Bro.

go for it

reply

I'll wait for the crossover spin off... Dumb and Dumbo.

My daughter (nearly 5) loves going to the cinema and has recently been 3 times in quick succession (Lego 2, Ralph 2, HTTYDragon 3), however, each time the trailer for Dumbo played, she showed zero interest in seeing it. I'd like to take her to see it, but I'm not 100% sure.
