I always appreciated his style of comedy - fun and good-natured. No profanity or cruel humor ever, and he was well loved for it.
shareHis character in Planes, Trains and Automobiles was simultaneously annoying/lovable/sympathetic/ hysterical. Not sure how many actors if any could've pulled it off as well as he did.

shareTotally agree. It was a very nuanced performance and showed he was capable of nore than just comedy. He could have gone on to be a very good straight actor.
I still find that movie entertaining to watch multiple times, more so once you know the story as you pick up on more little subtle hints from his performance each time.
