Favourite opening title sequence in a movie?

Here's mine from the obscure 1971 horror film "See No Evil." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELkRmGb-NzU

Jack driving up the mountain to the Overlook Hotel in The Shining. Music and visuals are stunning

reply

That one is great. I particularly like the unconventional choice of having the opening credits move upwards as if they were the end credits.

reply

It's probably "Jaws". Sets the perfect tone right off the bat.

reply

I love that jaunting cut to the beach party as the famous music gets more intense and suddenly stops.

reply

Yeah, it's great. I love that whole sequence.

reply

Winner!

The openings of most James Bond films are usually amazing, sometimes the best part of the whole film.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NbCNA0mAtM

Straight away it tells you what the movie is going to be ... silly.

Goodfellas: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6t5awMTGqog

Same thing as above minus the silly part.

Honestly I have a ton of them and a heap of them are Alfred Hitchcock films, Vertigo, Rear Window you name it.

reply

Goodfellas is a great example!

reply

I love the animated sequences in Monty Python's work. The Mona Lisa showing off her breasts... 🤣

reply

Yeah Terry Gilliam did some great work on those animations.

reply

Goodfellas is definitely one of the most memorable.

Avengers: Age of Ultron

The overall movie may be bad, but the opening sequence is amazing.

reply

Saturday Night Fever, John Travolta carrying a bucket of paint down the street.

Runner up is Deadpool, the intro is like twenty minutes long.

reply

Another great one! The shoes, the strut, the bucket, the characters on the street. It’s the all the themes of the film in a nutshell.

Enter the Void is definitely up there:

it really starts at 1:05

this is my answer too.
enter the void is my favourite movie opening of all time.

Touch of Evil
Night of the Living Dead
Once Upon A Time In The West

reply

I love the "Night of the Living Dead" opening.

About 2 minutes of calm and then BOOM! You're into the action!
