Best Classic Kidnapping Movies

From any country.. By the 80s, I think 99% of them got ridiculous, and just titilating audiences with violence and nudity, but with no meat and potatoes, and bad writing..

Some good ones I first think of..
-The Collector (Wyler)
as well as a few Japanese movies, "Blind Beast", "The Insect Woman" "Pleasure of the Flesh"

Buffalo 66 is by far my favorite kidnapping movie. I also like “the vanishing”.

I have yet to see “the girl in the box” movie, but it’s certainly on my list.

Buffalo '66 is a Top 10 movie for me!

reply

Same.

12 Years a Slave is one for me.

It could be considered a kidnapping - Nature of the Beast/Hatchet Man (1995) with Lance Henriksen and Eric Roberts is really good ⤵️

That seems cool. I gotta try and find it.

Enjoy, it's a great little film 👍

Fargo 1996
Prisoners 2013
Taken 2008
The Searchers 1956

The Little Kidnappers (1954) Not exactly the typical kidnapper movie, but an interesting one.

Thanks.. Speaking of that time period, and the title "little", you might like "The Little Fugitive" (which I believe is on YouTube in full)

By now it's probably cliche to mention these classics, but they are my favorites:

The Searchers (1956)
Fargo (1996)

Haven't seen Buffalo 66. Heard only good things about it.

Disney's animated classic take on "Sleeping Beauty." The female lead is determined with what she wants out of life, very mature and confident in facing her fears. The princely fellow is more than just a pretty boy with a face. He gets to dash around and fling his sword at an evil dragon. Plus, he has a personality! The antagonist is remarkably flawed. It's hinted the villainess has been misunderstood, leading to isolation from society. But she refuses to see fault in her own. She's so lonely her only friend is a crow, whom she routinely chastises.

Trapped
Funny Games
Hide and Seek
The Last House on the Left (1972)
Don't Say a Word
Captivity
Taken
Saw
Misery

And a little known movie I really like:

The Disappearance of Alice Creed
