this was a time of my life where i was quite occupied with school & work, & didn't really keep current with film. to this day, i haven't seen some of the most prominent movies of this year - election, all about my mother, the iron giant, quite a few others.

but of what i have seen, i'd rank my favourites like this, more or less:

1 american movie
2 magnolia
3 being john malkovich
4 the war zone (still would rate this as the single darkest, most depressing film i've ever seen)
5 the straight story
6 south park
7 toy story 2
8 run lola run
9 blair witch project
10 mr death

reply

I love Lola Rennt, but that one's from 1998.

reply

i think it may have been released in north america in 1999. it appears on the metacritic list for 1999 films, which is what i used to put my list together.

but you're absolutely right that it was released in europe in 98.

reply

Okey dokey!👍

reply

I have been meaning to see this.

reply

I'm not sure it's your kind of thing, Mitch. It's very "European techno".

reply

I do venture from my comfort zone at times. This was a movie Dewey recommended along with The White Ribbon.

reply

I'm not a fan of The White Ribbon, but if Dewey said you should watch Lola Rennt, then you definitely can't ignore the man!

House on Haunted Hill

^^^wasnt a fan of this film...

But its ironic that you said this because Netflix just debuted A New series last night called "The Haunting of Hill House", Its based on The Book that the 1999 films was based on

I'm currently on the 6th Episode and I'm Blown away!

Its got some of the best casting, writing, characters and story I've ever seen in A TV series....

I know nothing of the book,Havent seen the 1999 film in years and did not even know the series was coming out until 2 days, The Only reason I even started it is because Its Directed By Mike Flanagan, Who IMO Is a very good director, He recently director Ouija:Origin Of Evil(which IMO is Levels better than its predecessor), Once I learned he directed the series I decided to give it a shot, I was fully HOOKED 20 mins in...

anyways, I can not recommend This series enough to YOU and anyone else who reads this....

Its marketed as A Horror/ghost series, But I swear The Incredible Story, Ark Of each character and The incredible casting of each actor is what stands out most....

Episode 3 was one of the best Episodes I've ever seen in a TV series...

reply

Man I wish I could get that series but I don't have Netflix. It sounds great and my favorite actress below is in it.
