We should call silent letters “decorative” letters
Doesn’t that make more sense?
I'm in.
shareI’m learning French and all those a silent letters at the end of words bugged me, so for it to make sense, I said “they’re just there for decoration”, and now they’re fine.
shareBlame the Normans in regards to many of English words which have "u" and "ch-" letters derived from their Frankish neighbors back in France. Some languages, such as English, have been butchered due to many outside influences.
shareI agree, even our own language has many foreign influences
shareI wouldn't doubt it in Transylvania, being disputed back and forth between your country and Hungary. Heck, your homeland has one of the coolest origin stories for a country's name, referring to the Romans.
shareYep we beat the crap out of them a few times
shareAre Romanians descended from Ancient Romans?
shareNo, when the Romans finally conquered us they assimilate our culture
We are a mixture
Romans: Hey! We're the Romans! We're going to smash you!
ancient Dacians: Cool! We're Romans now too?
Romans: Huh? What???
ancient Dacians: Yeah! We're Romanians!
Romans: [scratch their heads in confusion]
Is that how it went?
Actually there were two wars between us
First we beat them,in the second they beat us
I suspect most languages have foreign influences.
shareI don't know the others, but our language is a mix between many cultures
