Very beautiful music, but this one has my vote for the most beautiful ever:

Another great piece of music which I also love. But I'm sticking with the MS.

One of my uncles was able to play it very well. My mom used to make him play it every time we were at his house.

This one is my favorite piano piece (also moonlight related!)

Clair de Lune is a wonderful piece of music. So evocative.

reply

That had to be a treat. Yes, Clair de Lune is a beautiful piece, and has been mentioned by several posters.
But I'm sticking with the MS.

Both very beautiful pieces of music !

Here is my selection:

Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana by Pietro Mascagni

Another brilliant piece.

Movie Trivia note - This was the opera being performed in the last act of Godfather III. (Probably the best thing about that movie.)

reply

Another beautiful piece, Quasi, but I'm sticking with the MS.

I Thought this was a post by theman18 when I first read it. I was so excited for I finally understood one of his postsπŸ˜‚ great tune thoughπŸ˜‰πŸ‘

reply

Nope. Just little ol' me trying to class up the joint.

😎

That happens every time you come inπŸ˜‰πŸ‘

reply

Aw shucks, and ditto.

😎

reply

Yes, of course it is! Good choice.

Here is one of many runners-up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpI_B-aXulg

reply

A much panicked younger me completely agrees.

This me, I dunno - beautiful for sure but the most beautiful...not anymore.

reply

Sounds like the jury is still out on which piece you think is the most beautiful...

reply

BTW, I'm surprised and delighted at the many replies to this post, both here and on another site whose name I dare not breathe. I had no idea there were so many educated and cultural people on movie chat boards.

😎

reply

The old IMDb boards were like that too, (before they were destroyed by the hoards of trolls and the teams of organised saboteurs). Every now and then someone would contribute an unexpected jewel. I miss them as they used to be. Moviechat is quite good but on a much smaller scale of course.

reply

Yes and amen, Quasi.

Okay then. So what is the most beautiful piece to the older, and presumably wiser, Juror 8?

😎

reply

I don't think any piece of music will stand out to me as much as Moonlight Sonata MMC, truly it shook me as a young un', that said I think something more hopeful is in my headlights these days.

Something like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rh8gMvzPw0

Not to say that is more beautiful, just more in alliance with my current ways.

Or how's about https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctsWdUaHsHM

or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynEOo28lsbc

or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75x6DncZDgI.

For starters.

All excellent choices.

Speaking of Chopin, did you know that his body is buried in the Pere Lachaise cemetery in Paris, but that his heart is buried in a column of Holy Cross Church in Warsaw, in his native Poland? This was done to honor his deathbed request.
I've been to both places. It's the only grave I had to make two separate trips to visit.

😎

reply

It's an odd deathbed request which I doubt can be verified but an interesting fact MMC.

St. Valentine has their remains spread all over Europe.

reply

Actually I believe it can be verified. As a matter of fact, they removed the heart briefly a few years back to try and determine if he actually died of tuberculosis. They then put it back.

St. valentine has "their' remains spread all over Europe?? Huh?

😎

reply

Oh okay. I just checked on Wikipedia. I see what you mean now. I did not know that before.

😎

reply

but the most beautiful...not anymore.

Exactly, not anymore aka not not since 2012, because I know this is Juror's current favorite piece of music:

And how would you know that...?

Wow! I had no idea. Of course that's probably because I've never seen any of these movies.

Speaking of music for the screen here is a piece composed for Battlestar Galactica (2003-09)

@Quasi

Beautiful piece of music for a tv program! The strings are phenomenal and that bass drum adds so much drama!
Thanks!πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»

The following rips at my heart every time I hear it. Chills run up my spine. My eyes well with tears.

β€œAdagio for Strings”

reply

All the sorrow of the world in less than ten minutes.

reply

Adagio for Strings was played in Platoon which was about the Vietnam War. I lived through that losing a relative and also a friend. To many of you the war is history; you were born later.

The following is on the soundtrack of β€œBlack Hawk Down”. Most of us were living and grieved when the horrible incident occurred. I sob every time I watch the movie and especially when this is played:

reply

Your reply was most profound. Yes...and we had no business being over there!

reply

It is often said that nobody wants war which seems as though it would be a truism. And yet wars are still being waged on a regular basis so obviously somebody must want them. It seems to me that somehow the people who want wars and initiate them need to be identified and held accountable.

reply

@MovieMan

You will be happy to have confirmation of your choice for β€œthe most beautiful piece of music ever”.

It came in at #1 as per the following:

Wow! What a great video, and what great songs! And I agree with most of the list. It's always nice to have backup.

J.S. Bach was represented several times. I still remember in Leipzig, Germany in 2011 discovering to my utter amazement and awe that I was STANDING on his grave! He's buried under the floor of St. Thomas Church! I felt a bit faint. There was even a recital of his music there earlief that day. What a perfect day!

This one for me.
