Paramount network.. are they kidding?

I've gotten used to longish commercial breaks, but the new Paramount Network must have set a record. For those that haven't heard, the old Spike network is now Paramount.

How about 8:30 commercial breaks? Yep, close to nine minutes during an Indiana Jones movie. Who would ever sit through commercials for that length of time?

Unbelievable.

reply

Really? That's nuts,I struggle to sit through 2.30.
I tend to watch everything on a catch up app.

You're talking about paramount channel?

reply

Well, Paramount something or other. In the U.S., there was a cable channel called Spike. Sometime during this month, it was renamed Paramount (of the movie studio) and I guess they changed the types of programming.

This weekend, they ran all three Indiana Jones movies in a sort of marathon.

We didn't had that, but i always change the channel when are conmercials.

There is aprox 15 minutes of advertising per one hour of programming...on all channels. Quite often the allotment is spread out over 5-7 breaks...making the ads seem shorter. Not as popular is the notion of dropping more ads for a longer duration...fewer interruptions but for much longer segments.
The latter usually makes the average viewer angry as they feel they are being subjected to more commercials...but it is in fact an illusion.

According to Wiki, Raiders is just under two hours. Paramount ran the movie in a three hour window. I know that because I was curious as to how many total minutes they were actually running.

Assuming there were no cut scenes (I turned it off for obvious reasons), they were running 30 minutes of commercials for every hour. Any cut or trimmed scenes would have added even more commercial minutes.

I'm glad you brought that up...just came on here to post an amendment to my post. That being my statements only really apply to episodic tv....there is a great deal of leeway with motion pictures...especially those owned by the network airing them...as is the case with ROTLA. Looks like paramount is trying to offset the cost of acquiring spike....kind of a shitty little ploy. One other thing I've noticed and wondered if it was a ploy was the fact that some channels omit or at the very least speed up closing credits...this could give a network 15-30 seconds of extra ad time...that's 2 quickly spots...the kind ambulance chasers love. Production companies could also be playing ball in this trickery....noticed that many one hour shows run times used to be 47-48 minutes...but now 42-44 is common...3-6 minutes of ad time that did not exist a decade ago...happy coincidence? Probably not now that I think about it LOL!

That's why I never watch movies on channels which have commercials.

I DVR almost everything.
Even sporting events.

I see very few commercials nowadays.

It's why I'll probably never get around to installing a big antenna to get over-the-air signals from the nearest major city 65 miles away. Cable is out of the question. Every once in a while when I'm at the neighbors and they have the TV on, I'm once again reminded of just how ridiculous the number of commercials is. 🙄🤮

reply

Yup,unwacthable

It’s the Stoners’ Channel! Do they have a lot of ads for bongs?

reply

OMG. Will NEVER watch this channel again! Absolutely ridiculous how many commercial interruptions there are. I finally turned off before ending of a movie I love. This channel will never make it. Hope someone is reading feedback.

Am currently watching movie with dad - commercials seemed long so I started timing them. 5m on movie 5m commercial. John Wick is a 1h40m movie and is running for 3.5 hours. Ridiculous.

reply

AMC is unwatchable because of commercials.
