Best one season shows.

What are your favourite shows that for whatever reason only ran for one season?

I’d say Firefly, which is an obvious answer, as well as
Clone High.

Freaks and Geeks

Shit, how did I forget that? Good choice

Hunted (2012)

reply

Well it was technically on for two season, 'The Job'. But it started as a late midseason show and in total only ran for about twenty episodes. Years ago TV shows produced more than thirty episodes per season. So, I'd say 'The Job' was one season's worth of episodes.

A funny, great show! Denis Leary wrote and starred in it. It's a forgotten gem. So hilarious, dark comedy and totally politically incorrect!

reply

I enjoyed the Job as I recall.
On the up side, had the Job been renewed, we may never have gotten Rescue Me

reply

Totally agree with that! I just went on a "Rescue Me" binge and bought all the seasons! Another great Denis Leary Show, politically incorrect but honest, funny, tragic. A classic.

I know they made the TV movies later
but when it happened I was pretty ticked

Alien Nation

reply

Gosh I loved Alien Nation but I thought it ran for several seasons?

reply

Nope, just one season. A few years later the made a tv movie to resolve the cliffhanger and a few others but it never returned as a TVs series.

reply

I loved that stale milk was their booze.

reply

wasn't it Buttermilk?

reply

Great show.

Firefly was such good fun
Great characters, good story...i have yet to watch the Serenity movie and i own it
Soon...

reply

Serenity does as much as possible to tie things up and give the story a satisfying conclusion.
There’s only so much you can do in the length of one film though.
A few plots are dropped all together, and others are given hasty conclusions.
Good movie overall though, and Chiwetel Ejiofor is a fantastic villain.

reply

I really need to watch it
Thx
Very fun thread btw!

reply

Hi Redyetti,
I remember all the kerfuffle about Firefly, lots of people loved it and from the pressure from fans Serenity was made, but I can't remember why it ended.

reply

According to Fox, it was ostensibly just a matter of underperforming ratings for an expensive, high profile show.
However, that doesn’t explain why they in fact, didn’t even air the whole season despite having already been shot. The rest went unseen till the DVD release.
In general, the show was mishandled by the network from day one. From debuting a new show in the infamous Friday nite time slot of doom, to the inexplicable decision to air the episodes out of order, it was never given much of a chance.

Models Inc.!!!

reply

I looked it up
It had a sexy poster...the rest seemed 'meh'

reply

It was a crazy show. One model was an alcoholic who got knocked up by a priest. What's not to love about it?

reply

That seems tasteless and disgusting
Where can i watch?

reply

I wanted to say Youtube, the place of total depravity. But it's actually on Dailymotion!😁

reply

Nice😍

reply

I have never seen Firefly - it is rated 9.1/10

reply

Deservedly. It’s one of the best sci-fi series in tv history.

reply

sounds very much like Star Trek

reply

Not really. I mean, any show about space travel has influences from Trek, But Firefly has more of a space-western vibe.
It’s not so much about space exploration.
It’s really just about a group of wayward misfits survival on the frontier after fighting a losing war.
The equivalent of Star Fleet are an oppressive evil empire, and there’s no aliens.
Although it’s setting is decidedly si-fi, thematicly it’s far more akin to a western with some conspiracy and intrigue thrown in.

reply

you answered my next question on whether there are aliens or not.

reply

All the planets in the show are human settlements and colonies.
The closest thing to aliens are the Reavers, who are crazed, homicidal cannibals, but technically human.

reply

An excellent description
