Horror Movies

Hello! everyone who is a horror movie fan like myself?

reply

Hi,a new raider...I like that...fan of horror movies...yes,some of them๐Ÿ˜‰

reply

You're lucky, virtually everyone here in MovieChat is a horror fan! ๐Ÿ˜

reply

I don't get that impression because the horror board is dead & on imdb it was the second most active board (barring film/show specific forums)

reply

There's another thread somewhere in this General Discussion where the OP asked what is our favorite genre and the answers were mostly... you guessed it, horror.

reply

So how come no one talks about horror films here?

reply

I had a thread about the Hammer Studios films here 3 months ago.

reply

I bet you was overwhelmed with responses.

reply

No, there were some decent responses though.

reply

"the horror board is dead & on imdb it was the second most active board"

Comparisons to imdb are now kinda moot & pointless. Yeah, it was great, but it's gone, and considering the way it went out and treated its followers, good damn riddance. I frankly hope it crashes and burns.

As far as the horror board here, it's not gonna get livelier until more folks start posting on it regularly. All horror fans -- myself included -- should try to do so at least once a week

I am obsessed with horror films & have been since I was a kid but my taste in horror films has changed a lot over the years.

reply

how so ??

reply

When I first started watching horror films I was a kid so actually did get frights & also it was just cool watching grown up films & gore, boobs, monsters & all the other stuff that kids love (still love gore & boobs & monsters though)

Over a period of time I became more interested in things like Hammer Horror, silent horror, & euro films specifically Italian due to Lucio Fulci, Dario Argento & my favorite Mario Bava.

At some point in time i started liking real no budget shit & extreme films as well. And you learn the directors & film makers & actors (like with other films when you change from just liking films to them being a real interest)

Over the years "How so??" - When i first started watching horror films I would have never been interested in B&W films (barring Night of the Living Dead) & subtitled films I would have been "fuk dis if i want to read i will buy a buk"

At this point in time now my main interest in horror is world cinema... especially Asian films. I also spend a lot of time watching as much obscure that i can find.

I have been obsessed with horror for about 25 years & still love it as much as when slashers had my heart beating from the tension they give no one these days :D

Another thing about horror films I love is as a fairly natural extension it opened me up to exploitation films & even highbrow films as well.

reply

you should subscribe to Shudder - plenty of obscure foreign/Asian horror films on there.

reply

Signed up for Dearest Sister after waiting months for it. Other than that not a single obscure film or Asian film i didn't already see.

Nothing obscure.

reply

I think horror works better on the page. After all, there are limits to what they can show you on screen. The mind, however, in its capacity to frighten someone, is limitless.

reply

I like your imagination. I don't read horror fiction because it doesn't work for me & is the most frustrating thing.

I read the short story "The Mist" & even though it is really short it took some effort. I simply cannot focus which is kinda funny because my dad collects horror novels.

reply

It can be quite an adjustment reading horror as opposed to watching it. Horror movies do a lot of the heavy lifting whereas in horror books the opposite is true. The movie "The Mist" imagines its world for you. The short story version does not. Asking consumers to use their imagination can feel like schoolwork - -and who the hell wants to do schoolwork during one's spare time?

reply

Interesting indeed.

I have never been a fan of horror movies. I like some sci-fi horrors though like Alien or Flatliners, but that's because i like sci-fi in general.

I was exposed to some Asian horror movies because I am an Asian so that's just natural. Apparently majority of Asian cinema (except Chinese and Indian) produce lots and lots of horrors because they're cheap and most country can't afford action blockbuster movies like Hollywood.

My ex-girlfriend, an Indonesian, is a huge fan of local horror movies. She always drags me to see horror movies in theater. Worst experience ever. Not that I'm complaining though, at least she was cute.

Just for example, this is one of Indonesia's best selling horror movie of all time: Tali Pocong Perawan (2008). The movie is incoherent, not scary at all except for some cliche'd jumpscares, ridiculous story about the rope of a buried dead virgin is believed to have magical properties or something, and the theater was fully-packed as if it's The Avengers or some shit. The audience screamed, gasped, like I don't know, enjoyed it? Dude! God! That's a terribly made movie!

Fortunately, now my wife, a Chinese, don't like watching terrible horror movies at the theater, instead she wacthes terrible movies on DVDs, such as Twilight and the Final Destination franchise. Sigh.

I am a huge fan! I have many different tastes. I enjoy the crappy campy stuff like I Was A Teenage Werewolf ...... Motel Hell.
I also love The Innocents and The Haunting.
I enjoy reading Stephen King.... especially his earlier works. Many of his books have been adapted into great films.... Carrie is one of those. There are others that failed.
Some of my favorite horror films? Here is a list, just to name a few.....
Rosemary's Baby
The Stepford Wives (the original)
Night Of The Living Dead
Whatever Happened To Baby Jane
Strait Jacket
The Other
The Others
The Shuttered Room
Die Die My Darling
Let's Scare Jessica To Death
When A Stranger Calls (the original)
Funny Games
Julia, Full Circle
American Werewolf In London
Dracula (all of them!)
Night Of The Hunter
You'll Like My Mother
The Changling
House On Haunted Hill
Carnival Of Souls
The Brain That Wouldn't Die
The Exorcist
Audrey Rose.....
These are just a handful.....
As you can see, I'm all over the place but I know what I like.

I love me some horror films too!

reply

Massive horror fan here. Love all sorts. Paranormal, demonic, slasher, creature features, gore fests, you name it

reply

Have you seen "Black Christmas" from 1974? It's a cracker of a film!

reply

Yeah. I have it on dvd. It's a classic. Supposedly the first slasher if you don't count Psycho

reply

I got the DVD as well. If you ask me, I think Billy is a much scarier villain than Michael Myers.

reply

Agree. Those phone calls freaked me out
