That new Mummy movie left much to be desired.

Don't get me wrong, it was feature length and it was completed so obviously the filmmakers did something right. But aside from that I can't see how this is much of an improvement from the Brendan Frasier Mummy movie. Also it wasn't particularly scary and the action was generic at best. Tom Cruise is a good actor but has little place in a horror movie. And the supporting actress was a bitch. Tom should have slapped her back when she hit him in their first scene.

Thanks for the review, Farside. Remakes and sequels seldom measure up to the original.

Was it so bad that the audience wanted to “walk like an Egyptian” right out of the theater?

Sorry TheFarsideObserver; couldn’t pass that one up 😀

Any remakes are just cash cows. They are not meant for your entertainment as much as they are to just make some filler income before Hollywood's next blockbuster.

Yes, so very true. Remakes used to be labors of love. Sadly, that's a thing of the past now.

The original Mummy movies were pretty mediocre as well.. it's only that a lot of people saw them when they were young and at a time before navel-gazing nerd-culture became mainstream, so they could actually have fun watching a silly movie and thus have fond memories of the same...

I do agree Cruise should have stayed away though, he's far too big a star to be in such a movie and was always going to overshadow any monsters in such a non-R rated adventure movie...

Is this really a surprise? The trailers alone pretty much indicated it would be a bomb
