RIP MovieChat

Heavy moderation will kill this site. Well done crybullies. You have concern-trolled Jim into making some of you as moderators and now you are effectively reporting every post and user you personally hate. Soon most of the users will move on to better sites with neutral moderation. \

Goodbye.

Moderators are a good thing. That was part of the problem with the IMDB boards. They killed the boards off because of the trolling and vulgarity, but they never really made an effort to moderate. They just let the boards police themselves, and when a troll ends up a moderator (like what happened on the IMDB GoT boards), chaos ensues. Sure, the trolls love it, but this site wasn't created for them. It was created for people who like to talk about movies and television shows.

Bye!

It's interesting to see this comment from you made in late April. Now that you have been a victim at the hands of the moderators, I think you might be more inclined to see that those of us who warned about the dangers of excessive moderation knew what we were talking about all along.

reply

Yes, I agree with you. I'm not a snowflake, and I like a free and open forum. If someone gets abusive I simply walk away.

I'm not a choirboy by any stretch, but in the years at IMDB and thousands of posts, I had but one deleted. I don't recall what it was exactly but it was hardly profane (something to do with me being intimate with some gorgeous actress on the town green at high noon with my wife holding my jacket - and my language was no more profane than that). Probably two homely housewives bitter at me making a joke about a beautiful woman pushed the "report" button.

What I'm trying to say is that the people who do the most and bitterest complaining about moderation are the ones that reasonable people want moderated.

I f-bomb with my buddies because everyone does. I don't swear in any form in front of my wife, my mother, my aunts or uncles, or my father in law's new wife (who's very religious).

Because I don't know who'll be reading anything I post *publicly*, I *moderate myself* accordingly. There may be children or grandmothers reading stuff on these sites, so let's act like we're adults and control ourselves just a tiny bit.

Oh, and don't let the door hit your A** on the way out...

A very reasoned, reasonable post, Strntz.

A good post, Strnz.

RIP Ben.

Ben?

😎

reply

It's obvious the OP was one of Ben's socks.

reply

Oh okay. Why do people do socks? Any clue?

😎

reply

Because:

1. They know, due to their bad behavior, a number of their accounts are going to be banned, so they need backups.

2. It amuses them.

reply

Oh okay. In other words, they're idiots.

😎

reply

What Cat said, and also if they hate what you say, they can attack you with several nics, and also report you with several nics to the mods. Mods can be under impression that 10 people resent your comments, when in fact it's only one person with 10 socks, and that person is playing mind games.

reply

In other words mean and spiteful idiots.

😎

reply

Basically yes. :)

reply

Yes. I agree with Apris's add-on. That's definitely another reason why trolls have socks -- often LOTS of them.

Also what MissMargo said :D

reply

Sad and pathetic.

😎

reply

When you stop to think about it, it really is.

reply

3. They can talk to each other when nobody else will? 😎

reply

Kind of sad when you think of it that way.

I like your emoji.

reply

"I like your emoji."

Thanks! I borrowed it from a really cool poster here! 😎
You're alright, MovieMan!

reply

LOL, Miss Margo! So are you.

😎

reply

Yes definitely this, saw it happen a lot on IMDb.
Especially when that poster has a controversial opinion and nobody else agrees what better way to drum up support than a brand new poster who happens to agree with everything you say courtesy of your other PC/laptop/tablet!
It is indeed sad.

💩

reply

Yes. I remember several instances on IMDB boards. It was always so obvious and just plain foolishness.

Making this debate from late April trend again to draw attention to a problem several of us had already foreseen.

reply

I love this site and have not had any problems
