Interested in becoming a MovieChat Moderator?

Looks like we've just had our first troll attack! We all knew they would come, and I had been anticipating it and had already put IP-banning measures in place. I view it as a sign that our site is growing and attracting more attention, which is a clear positive.

We are now looking for a small team of moderators, one or two from each major timezone, to help keep the trolls at bay. As I've stated before, freedom of speech is truly important to our community, but clear and obvious trolling will not be tolerated.

If you're interested in becoming a MovieChat moderator, please reply directly to this post and let me know.

Note: We're looking for established members with a long posting history. No new members or members with only a few posts will be considered at this time.

It never ceases to amaze me. So many people living in different places across world can come to chat at the same place.. Technology !

Yes, it's kind of cool isn't it wheelin176. When I was a kid we only had CB radio, the internet chat room of the 70's. One cool advantage that it had though was that you were talking to people that were in close enough proximity that you could often organize a get together and meet some of them, which we did.

Judging from the people applying here, Jim's going to need to have Rick Deckard (from Blade Runner) skills to tell who's legitimately trying to help and who's playing nice to try to troll from within. I would be wary of people creating alternate accounts, making a few dozen civilized posts and then politely asking to be a moderator.

I hope he picks you as one of them... From what I've learned so far by watching this process, part of the formula for having a successful replacement message board would be to have a moderation team in place before going live. Normally, I don't think trolls are much of a problem for new sites but because imdb had such a huge built in audience, they had a proportional amount of troublemakers which caused a disproportionate amount of trolling at the new sites.

I agree that it would have been a good idea to have an exiting mod-team, but I do admire Jim for getting as much done as he did on his own. It still amazes me how dedicated he is to this site and how many improvements he's made over the past few weeks. This site is certainly going places!

Hi...I did not post much on the imdb boards but the message boards were the only reason for imdb being my primary preference among movie sites. You realize how good something was only when you lose it and now I regret not having been an active poster on the imdb message boards.

Moviechat has filled a void and I hope to be an active member of moviechat.org
For what it is worth, I wish to support this site in any capacity.

I think i would do a great job. I think the admin is the greatest admin of all the websites i have been to. He has done a great job and i am sure his site will become the greatest online website, topping alexa rankings. Please make me mod
