Any news yet on how many members are here so far?

I've been looking at the consistency of the "trending" feature on the main page and it's hard to tell. I'm always getting "2 minutes ago", "4 minutes ago". It's got a nice flow going on and it seems we're getting more and more each day but in terms of an actual number do we know this yet?

reply

You can pretty much tell by the fact that this is the only thread people post in and the (lack of) new topics even in this thread and the regurgitated threads that the numbers are under 100 if not less

reply

Not that much different on TMDb, to be honest. I've started quite a few threads and posted in even more, but only got a reply to a handful of them, even though there's the Let's Chat section. Most posts are made on the same boards/threads.

It's true that we're all scattered. I used to visit some Disney and horror movie boards and I have no idea where all those people have gone.:(

reply

Quite a bit more than that by now I think. Just by looking at a thread like "Your Names" there is atm 169 posts with probably well over a hundred users just there. Then comes the many (like me) who don't feel the urge to share in that way, and then come the big majority of lurkers and posters who posts a bit here and there.

I was actually thinking of making a thread on how this site is really picking up now! On the main board most topics are being posted in, lots of different movies and series are trending and more and more people seem to be "signing" in!

I think you caught on to the most important thing, whether or not the trending feature traffic remains stable or grows... as long as it is stable or slowly increases, the site may have a future. Imdb boards had been losing traffic for years as people tend to migrate towards general social networking sites (FB, IG, Twitter, Pinterest) vs. specialized message boards, so it would be hard to ever recapture the glory days of the past. As long as the site finds a dedicated group of quality posters, people will continue to use it. The best thing one can do is to post more often than they normally would, if there are no topics for people to respond to, they will go somewhere that has them.

reply

I wholeheartedly agree with your last part about posting. I've been trying to go around to my most frequented or favorite boards and just post out into nothing hoping it'll catch on with other fans and it'll make them feel like joining in themselves, but I also don't want to be the only one initiating stuff either, so it's a balance.

I'm trying to remain patient about it all too since everything is still new and building here. The individual boards need the most love, but it's been pretty steady going by the trending section, better than I would've thought for a place still in the infant stages. So, yes I'm trying to keep up the double P...post and patience! I hope everyone else does too!

reply

We're slow but it's growing little by little.

reply

Definitely!

I would just comment on what you are naturally watching. There's no need to force the issue, although I wouldn't worry about posting too much at this early stage either. In the early days of imdb I would post a lot, but as the years passed I usually only lurked and used it as a reference to confirm certain plot points or opinions. I miss having that resource so I'm willing to post again just to try to get this one going. In a few months or perhaps less we will probably know if this will work outside its natural environment.

reply

I get excited to post, haha, so if I see something I've watched I try to contribute to that board just to keep activity up as well as just enjoying the engagement of fellow fans, of course.

But yes, after some time we'll see how this fares! I look forward to being along for the ride.

I've posted more here in a week than on IMDb in my 8 years there.

reply

Me too, Apis. I was with the place that we shall not name since the beginning and maybe posted 3 times. I feel the sense of urgency to support this place probably because of the instant bond due to our refugee status.

reply

Yeah, it's like we are all the the same lifeboat and we all have to do our share of rowing to keep it moving.

You guys also have to realize the IMDB members have all been scattered to the four winds. There are a bunch of new movie sites trying to get old IMDb members. This site thus far is the best I have seen. We need to get the word out.

reply

Trust me,we're trying to get more users

reply

Without wishing to spam people, what is the best way to get the word out without annoying others?

And where are the best places to post? the Movies sub on Reddit for example?

reply

I haven't b/c I'm not on it but some say the best place is facebook. Considering they have such high traffic, more people would see it. Personally I feel odd going to another site and asking people to come over here b/c I think this is better.

Welcome aboard!

Thanks Apis, glad to be here! I appreciate that. From what I've seen so far this is going to be a great success! And part of that will be nice people like you.

Btw, I love the email notification feature. That is a definite improvement on IMDB.
