Nice try MovieChat--you look like Imdb's baby brother. But what helps me determine whether or not a movie is worth seeing is not just the rating, but the number of people who have contributed to that rating. For example if a movie has a 7 rating on Imdb, but only 20,000 people have rated it, I know it has bad word of mouth, despite the rating, and will stay away.

Because I have found that, superhero movies excepted, a large number of viewers indicates an interesting, well-done movie, and I have seen enough bad movies in my life, thank you, so I seek guidance before wasting any more time. The metric I am referring to is much more indicative, for me, than what is said by the the bought and paid-for critics.

7 is usually a pretty high rating on imdb, especially for a comedy.

shareI almost never see a movie based on a rating. In fact, I see movies now based on if a book says something about it or it is rumored to have a good theme. If there is an actor who I like, I will almost always see that movie or if the movie is in reference to something I like.
shareI'm an RT junkie. I go strictly by their numbers and never relied on IMDb ratings. But many people still use the IMDb ratings. I would not think that it's a great idea to use too much of their data though.
I am no copyright expert but I have taken courses on it and even taught it on occasion. UGC is murky territory, but whatever the case, I don't think Imdb will sue this site in the short term, because they've got their head up their own ass, and don't give a damn about what we do with old messages. We get them no money, and they are happy with whatever keeps us quiet (for now). But detailed rating information might be pushing it possible far, as you don't want to play with fire. I am sure Jim will know what to do.
Metacritic is far reliable score , according to me. IMDB is a farce !
shareI'm not talking about ratings, per se, but audience interest, or, let's call it "ratings reliability." If two movie gets similar ratings on Metacritic and IMDB, but one has 50,000 ratings and the other 200,000, which one are you more likely to enjoy? If a batter is hitting 300 with 50 at-bats, and another is hitting 290 with 300 at-bats, which would you want on your team?
