I agree. I don't know what the hell he is waiting for, considering that everything he tries to do gets jammed up in the courts. Might as well get the process going as soon as possible.

Yeah, I got sick of headlines about Trump "considering" (insert great idea here) long ago. I want to see headlines that Trump has already enacted (insert great idea here). Most other nations don't have it for good reason. It incentivizes social disruption in the target country and risky behavior by the pregnant women. Scrap this stupid loophole.

I don't think Trump have the power to do this. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this would require a Constitutional Amendment? Getting 2/3 of both the House and Senate is never going to happen.

It would not require an amendment. That claim is based on an oft-repeated misreading of the 14th Amendment, which was passed in the aftermath of the Civil War to explicitly grant citizenship to former slaves.

But its literally in the first sentence, that anyone born in the US is a citizen. I'm staunchly opposed to illegal immigration and the abuse of our asylum system, but birthright citizenship is something I will stand behind.

All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.


If all that is needed for citizenship is being born in the U.S., the jurisdiction clause would be meaningless and unnecessary.

The authors of the 14th Amendment clearly did not believe they were granting citizenship to the U.S.-born children of foreign diplomats or of soldiers of an invading army. They did not even intend for it to apply to Native Americans, whose citizenship was later granted by an act of Congress.

There isn't a record of their views on this specific question because illegal immigration was simply not an issue when the amendment was passed, but it seems to me that the U.S.-born children of illegal aliens have a lot in common with the U.S.-born children of foreign diplomats or of soldiers of an invading army in that their parents are citizens of a foreign power with no lawful, permanent resident status.

It defies common sense to extend the extremely valuable privilege of U.S. citizenship to the children of people unlawfully present in this country. Doing so further encourages illegal immigration and it's long past time that we end this foolish practice.

Since Ivanna T-rump was not a citizen until 1988, which was years after her three children were born in the US, that makes Ivanka, Donnie Diapers and Eric 'short bus' birth-right citizens. So they get deported !

Wouldn't apply to them anyway. Their father was a citizen and their mother was here lawfully, even if she wasn't a citizen.
