I haven't seen it in decades, but I seem to recall that as well. "He teams up with a black slave who is also out for revenge." That's not accurate. Vance Colby (Robertson) teamed up with Capt. Barbee who owed a debt to Colby's father gambler Chip Colby. Chip Colby helped Barbee keep his riverboat from a cardsharp, and Barber never forgot it. Barbee, his daughter Melanie, and their employee (possibly a slave) Josh helped Colby in getting justice on the three men who murdered Chip. It's my favorite Christmas movie as well. I make a point to watch it every year. It looked like Sukeena's head scarf covered in blood and insects. I was impressed with both Michael Morrissey's performance as a dangerous stalker and Charles Dickens nailing the dangerous obsessed stalker in the book. You probably won't see a reply to such an old post, but I am re-watching the series on BritBox right now. The mini-series was faithful to the way character behaved in the book. He ended up being a teacher with the possibility of marrying a fellow teacher and never reconciled with his sister. FYI, in Jane Austen's unfinished novel "Sanditon", Ms. Lambe is a person of color so the TV show is not being "woke", but following Ms. Austin's vision. It was good to see the characters again, and it felt like the actors just slipped right back into their roles. I thought that the plot itself was weak. I wish that they had stayed in Melbourne instead of going to London and the Middle-East. There was a supernatural element, but the series really didn't go in that direction, with the exception of the episode about a medium. I was one of those people. I didn't like Depp in the role as he played it too weird to be convincing as a charismatic archvillain. I thought that Colin Farrell and Mads Mikkelson were more convincing, particularly Farrell. Couldn't agree more. Most of the evening attire in these Hallmark movies are terrible, but that was the worst. She's a beautiful woman, but that dress made her look dowdy. I just checked the TCM channel to find out when it would be broadcast so that I could record it to watch on Halloween this year. FYI, 2:45 PM ET, Saturday, 10/30/21. No, it looks like too much time in the sun without sunblock. I did watch The Frankie Drake Mysteries, and will when it returns, but I prefer Miss Fisher. Nothing against the actress, but the writers did not do well by that character. She became so annoyingly inconsistent within the series. While I liked the adult Brandon better than child Brandon and wished that he remained, I was glad Tara's character left the show. Came to post that the character Adam is really a jerk and Stephanie is due for some good luck in the dating arena. You are right, I miswrote. I meant Pernas, not Coppola. And, yes, I did watch. It's available on Acorn. I just binge-watched the series in the past week, and funnily enough, I thought that Anthony Green's version of Beringar was the worst as he seemed to play the character more as a jerk in comparison to Pertwee and McCarthy. I thought that Pertwee gave the closest characterization to the Beringar in the books. I have to say that there is one Brad Pitt scene in which I thought that his body looked truly amazing for his age. He must have worked with a personal trainer for hours every day for months before filming to be ready just for that scene. Because he realized that he believed in the curse and he knew that his family would die if they did not complete the ritual.
