Yes, he had a bunch of empty pill bottles beside him and vomit around his mouth.....
I like some ambiguous endings but this one was just dumb.
It left way too many unanswered questions.
How was the platform moving? Why were we seeing weird clips of the kitchen staff if we were never going to learn what was happening?
Who would choose to go in there? How do they move them monthly? What happened when the girl reached the top?

It is because up until very recently society always assumed everyone was cis and straight. So a lot of the times you know something is different or not quite right but think everyone feels that way because you dont know any different. Then, an event happens that makes you realize what that was all along.
Nobody turns gay or trans. It was always there, they just didnt realize what it was, or where trying to deny it.

Being a musician and liking art has nothing to do with it. Liking same sex partners does.
Also it is easy to see from his flamboyant style and personality (which they did not display in the movie), that he could be picked out as a nelly a mile away.
His parents were Jamaican and up until very recently Jamaican culture was notoriously homophobic, so it is not surprising his family would not want to acknowledge he was gay.
His family is in denial, he was certainly gay. Have you seen him?

I watched the first season when it first came out and never finished the series. I watched it again now, and when it came to the scene in season one, I remember feeling like maybe I was just too sensitive the first time or something because I thought the scene was brutal the first time and this time it was a lot easier to watch.
Well, this explains it!
