"Easy Diver" I wouldn't doubt this is true! that was quick. There's no way I'm going to miss this! I think Furiosa's budget was half of what Indy 5's budget was. Indy 5 cost 350 million and the Box Office was 380 million. Furiosa's budget was about 175 million and the Box Office will end up around 175-200 million. I think they're about even in this regard, no? Not only can you buy a LARGE TV under 500(EUR or USD) you can watch everything at home in High Def. I remember in 2005 it was hard to find High Def TV programming. By 2010 it was almost on every channel. Plus high def discs became widespread around 2007-2008. I mean, you got a large screen with High Def at home you don't need to go to another theater ever, unless the movie is REALLY, REALLY special. and only then, maybe. in terms of Coke, yeah. Ticket prices may be $10 where you are but most places are a lot more. I think a HUGE difference between now and 20-30 years ago is you worked an average work week, got paid on Friday, and almost had to go to the movie at or near the mall to spend some of your disposable income. Nowadays? people are working longer, harder, for way less pay. The mall is dead, the movies showing at the theater are usually disappointing and we positively know Hollywood is run by talentless, low quality people. Therefore, the appeal of going to see a movie is gone. Instead of going to a theater to see magic we stay away from the theater to avoid the bad smell. It stinks. It stinks BAD. Miller said if Furiosa did well he'd go ahead and make The Wasteland. Now that ain't gonna happen. yes it's a shame especially how great the stuntwork was in the first 2 Mad Max movies. It's simple. The movie theater experience is dying. They still have a bunch of people fooled into thinking they have to go spend hundreds of dollars to see their favorite dumb summer movie 4-5 times but that is fading fast. Most people know better, they don't bother going to the movie theater ONCE, let alone 2x or more. Many years ago there were a dozen or so episodes up on YouTube. They were short but outstanding. I don't know if these are new episodes or what but the ones on Freddie Prinze, Sam Kinison, John Belushi, etc were very enlightening with insider interviews of friends, co-comedians, family, producers, etc. I need to torrent these to see if they're the same! Furiosa had a much bigger drop off over the weekend: Fri: 10.3M Sat: 8.3M -20% Sun: 7M -15% Garfield had a much smaller drop off: Fri: 8.5M Sat: 8.2M Sun: 8.2M I agree with you Toomer. Even famed writer David Mamet says Hollywood is dead, full of liars and thieves. When he says he's done by god I'm done. I can find good stuff to watch at home and it's far cheaper than a $20 ticket for Furiosa. if it truly is a good movie it will find an audience, but right now it looks like a very weak opening which is kind of heartbreaking because George Miller has had to go through this type of ordeal ever since 1985's Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. Yep, more bullshit from Hollywood! but we have to remember they would not know a good movie if they saw one. AND, if they think a movie is truly bad they don't have the f cking guts so say anything about it! Yes the ticket price is a little high but the popcorn is insane! Back in the day I used to carry all sorts of goodies inside my jacket. Heck, my senior year in high school my friends and I snuck in a 5th of Jack Daniels on a Sat night viewing of Tootsie(Dec, 1982). The place was packed and after we poured the Jack into our big cups of Soda the bottle slipped and clanged on the floor..LOUD! Then it slowly rolled down the floor all the way to the 1st row my friends and I got some dirty looks and a few chuckles from the crowd too. What a memorable night! 5 pounds that's only 6 USD and I love old theaters. It's funny Hollywood pay tons of money to get great critic reviews and still can't win.
