This is my point as well. I'm not saying nothing happened; but please keep in mind that there was no corroboration; there is no physical evidence, the witnesses SHE put out there don't back her up, she doesn't know exactly when or where it happened (if it did) and she said nothing about it for over 36 years. In short, the only evidence she presents is her testimony, which the Democrats bring out at the last minute to delay the nomination. That's all this is. Why, because of very likely false accusations? I did not believe Anita Hill either. All due to uncorroborated accusations made many years after the fact. I enjoy watching it as well. It is one of my favorite films. The novel is definitely worth a read. It's long, but a very good book. With the exception of Molly Ringwald, I agree with you. The reason that I excepted Molly was that I thought she was miscast. She is attractive and a good actress (even here), and I don't agree with those who said she did a poor job acting here, but to me, she just was not Frannie. The problem was not her acting; it was casting her. This is a valid point, but the main villain prior to the appearance of Flagg was the US government, specifically the military. In the film, Rae Flowers made the statement that what the army was doing never stopped the 'real patriots among us'. However, that the US was and is seen by many as the main source of evil in the world, is still valid, and a good case can be made that King thought in such terms. This movie did remind me of the Glatman case. I'm glad other people made the same connection.
I just looked at that thread, is that your IMDb persona? It's very perceptive, I wonder why those mistakes weren't picked up in the editing.
There was speculation that King would not let his work be edited, especially in the later years. I don't know if this is true or not but it would help explain why so many of the errors made it into print.
yeah we both agree on that . I was wondering if in light of the scandal they were going to clean their act up, or once the wolves were fed full of Harvey it would be business as usual.
There will always be men who abuse women and girls and there will always be women and girls who will participate in hopes of advancing their careers. Their thinking was likely that once Harvey had been tossed to the wolves, that business would resume as usual. I think what crc32 is saying is that what Hollywood did was to throw Weinstein to the wolves in the hope that that would get #metoo off the rest of their backs. That sounds reasonable to me. Where is the flaw in the argument?
Hollywood I guess figures it needs to sacrifice only one scapegoat and hope no one pays attention to the rest of the culprits.
Could be something to this. I hear they made
Greer a Muslim, for crying out loud. And the poor terrorist has to be UNDERSTOOD!!!
Where is a barf-bag??? The media loved McCain because he was a 'maverick' Republican, right up to Obama's nomination in 2008, when they had a new idol, then when it was certain that he was not going to run again for POTUS, and he became a 'maverick' again, he got their love back. Same with the other liberals. No; I never thought that the German stewardess was one of the bad guys.
Its just random bullshit.
I wouldn't go quite that far, but it was a very dull, plodding film, and any plot was hard for me to see. King has been hit or miss with me, especially lately. About the only King stories I started and didn't finish were '1922' and 'Delores Claiborne'. While I finished it, 'The Shining' didn't really appeal to me. 'The Stand' is my favorite King book by far and one of my all-around favorites by any author. I am the thread's OP, yes. Yes, I am; thank you for asking. My book, "The Pale Horse" is on kindle. If you want, I can PM you a link so you can read the first 100 or so pages. TPH is post-apocalyptic, but I have one book in the fire that is a horror story. I'm an author and I don't hate him. He is one of my favorite writers. Other than myself, of course. :)
