What terrible casting...

Neither Emma or Harriet are supposed to be unattractive or plain.

reply

I guess it's down to personal taste but I enjoyed watching both of them. Perhaps neither is conventional chocolate box pretty but each is attractive and interesting - IMHO.

They look like they should be in one of these new CW drama's with non-binary people and ugly chicks and weird looking dudes cast.

I confess that from the trailers I wasn't too sure about Anya Taylor-Joy but when I watched the film I thought she was excellent - and beautiful. Just out of curiosity, have you watched the film yourself?

reply

Just the trailers. Don't think I'll waste my time with the movie with that cast.

reply

To be honest I mainly watched the film because it was a rainy day and I'd already watched the other films available. But as is sometimes the way I enjoyed it much more than I expected. Perhaps this is one of those times when the trailer does the film no favours.

reply

Yeap, Harriet was supposed to be cute. Mia Goth isn't.

And Anya Taylor-Joy used to be a beauty when she was younger, but she hasn't aged well.

reply

And Mr. Knightley is supposed to be thirty-five years old, according to Jane Austen, who probably knows more about this story than anybody.

reply

The actor who plays Knightley is 35 years old. The problem is that he looks in his early 20s.

I don't see what they could do there. Last decade, white males are only hired to play cucks or psychopaths, and that means that the actors (white males) that are getting jobs (and experience) are the ones that fit one of those two roles. The actor who plays Knightley is clearly in the first group (the cucks) and looks like a kid, no matter he's 35.

If you've read the novel, that breaks immersion, since the difference in age and maturity between Emma (very smart, but lacking experience) and Knightley (smart, experienced and mature) is a recurrent topic in the novel.

reply

I think they are both beautiful young women in their own way. It’s refreshing to see two women that aren’t generic looking. Also I thought Mr. Knightley did look like he was in his mid to late thirties, just look at his face, definitely not in his twenties.

reply

It's not just the leads. Every girl cast in this movie was odd and strange looking. The whole thing is quirky as all getout.

reply

OH GOOD...ANOTHER THREAD ABOUT ACTORS BEING UGLY.🙄

Ania Taylor Joy is anything but unattractive or plain ...
