Wonderful film

This was wonderful. Abby Ryder Fortson is charming and gives a winning, fantastic performance. The other kids are great too. Rachel McAdams and Kathy Bates are stellar, as usual. The film is sweet, funny, and heartfelt. This is relatable and enjoyable for tweens and parents. There is something here for everyone, young or old, girl or boy. Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret is my pick for best film of the year so far. My rating is 9/10.

The book is good. Does the movie feel like a 70’s film, or does it feel contemporary, just set in the 70’s? There’s a big difference… thanks!

It feels contemporary, just set in the 70s to me.

The director was born in 1981 so I would guess any attempt at a genuine '70s mood would have been ineffective.

This is Steve Allaby's favorite film of 2023 thus far because it's a story about an 11 year old girl.

That kid deserves an Oscar.

It is a nice movie and I like that it was able to keep my attention without counting on tension and conflict, but it is mainly geared toward the female audience. Never heard about the book, it must be one of those American things that are too peculiar to become international.

It made me wonder how these days they breed so many good kid actors without turning them into ass raped suicidal drug addicts, but I guess this was not the point of the film.

This book was HUGE for at least a couple of decades after it was published. The movie is different from the book, of course, but was still wonderful in my opinion.
