So Ikarus = Homelander?

Evil cis flying white guy with laser eyes. I never got deep into the whole Marvel (or DC) mythology so maybe Homelander = Ikarus but pretty damn sure someone ripped somebody else off.

reply

He basically has Superman's powers, I think that's what they're ripping off.

And yeah, I know diddly-squat about the comics, but it's pretty clear that the screenwriters felt free to rip off anything and everything out of history and even pop culture. They wanted us to think that humans based ancient goddesses and modern superheroes on these characters that had been here for 7,000 years, and that left them free to steal anything they liked.

reply

So between Brightburn, Invincible, The Boys, and now this you'd think they might want to calm down with the evil Superman motif. Even though the Boys, and Invincible are both superb it's a little overdone by this point.

reply

DC even has their own alternate reality with an evil Clark Kent Superman called "Injustice: Gods Among Us".

reply

1) Invincible is NOT an "evil Superman" story
2) Even though there are a LOT of "Superguy goes bad" stories out there (Hyperion, Plutonian, The Mighty, Sentry, etc, etc. . .) to say the motif has been "overdone" is silly. It's just one element in a revolving type; if you took the time to count, you'd find it's been done LESS than many others (heroes lose their powers, heroes lose loved ones, heroes band together to fight an ultimate enemy, etc, etc, etc.).

reply

1) There is an evil Superman on the show.
2) I did take the time to count. I count 4 in the past 4 years. In the past 4 years you've gotten four evil superman stories in the mainstream. So again yes it feels a lil overdone. There are more motifs that have been done more, but we're talking about evil superman.

reply

1) There is NOT an evil Superman on the show. I won't get into spoilers, but you're simply wrong.
2) If you're suffering from concept-exhaustion because of two "evil Superman" characters (Icarus is not an evil Superman, either) then that's a personal problem. . .hardly indicative of anything else. Count up all the other "motifs" that are FAR more prevalent, and it's clear that this is a vanishingly small percentage of the total.

"Overdone" is simply Your reaction. . .hardly some indelibly carved standard.

reply

1) There IS an evil Superman on the show. pay better attention
2) Stop deviating. We're not talking about "OTHER MOTIFS" we're talking about this one. If you can't see the parallels between Nolan, Homelander, Icarus, and creepy Brightburn kid that's on you. They are all representations of evil Superman.

You being offended by my words is a "You" problem. So next time don't comment on my post. Agree to disagree

Goodbye now

reply

1) There is NOT an "evil Superman." Think harder, or find someone better at it to explain the concept of complexity to you
2) Nobody's "deviating." You claimed there were too many of this particular "motifs," when there are far less than other "motifs" being recycled. The fact that you decided to get your knickers in a twist about this particular "motif" does NOT mean it's overdone. Period.
3) Of course there are similarities in the characters. But neither Nolan, nor Icarus are "representations of evil Superman." At best, they're deeply flawed/conflicted superhumans with similar powersets. Just about EVERYTHING ELSE about them (and their stories) is different.

Brightburn is the closest to an "evil Superman" analogue on your list, although Homelander certainly gets a nod.

That is all.

reply

1) There is an evil superman
2) You are deviating. It is overdone. It is a motif
3) They are

Awww! Don't leave confused! Really trying to help you, here. I'll make it easy for you: You're wrong. I've explained why, a couple times. Find somebody who can think clearly, and have them sit down w/you and reread the discussion.

Good luck to you!

I'll make it easy for you. You're wrong. Next time don't reply to my post and keep on moving.

Starting to feel bad for you: this has Always been easy. The only difficult part is getting you to grasp basic concepts. Because you're not too good at the whole "thinking" thing. Like I said: find someone to help you w/that.

Frankly Ikarus has been around a lot longer than Homelander.
