Did anyone NOT figure it out?

She says to him that the symptoms of the morphine overdose would be apparent by 5 mins and the guy explicitly says later on that it has already been 6 minutes, he was showing none of the symptoms. That part was obvious.

But, the moment Hugh(Ransom) says that he was a research assistant for Harlon everything fit together about who switched the medicine.

Although, I thought that Ransom himself forged the blackmail letter in order to make Marta confess and then burned the hospital to destroy the evidence clearing Marta. I didn't recognize the clues that Fran did anything.

reply

Yeah, I agree, it was so obvious.

reply

She said 8 minutes.

Still, IV morphine would be felt right away, 100 mgs would knock him unconscious pretty fast.

But I still wasn't sure if the drugs were mixed or if it was sloppy writing. I mean, I'm a pharmacologist but most writers aren't.

reply

I thought it was 10 minutes and they talked for almost that much time. If it was a fatal dose he definitely wouldn't had been able to kill himself. I am surprised that Marta didn't notice any symptoms as well.

reply

Mildly annoying but not a deal breaker for me. Too much other good stuff going for it and pharmacology facts was not what it was about.

More of a plot hole was that the police would not rule on suicide until a coroner issued a report and that wouldn't be done until the toxicology report was in. But again, I wasn't going to let that ruin the fun.

reply

Definitely agree, the cops just jumped to conclusions saying it was a suicide. Oh well, its a movie.

On a side note, wouldn't Marta be in jail also for covering up a murder? And Fran as well?

I thought Daniel Craig was awesome too.

reply

That's kind of interesting. If it was a suicide, she wasn't covering up a murder. She was withholding information on the suicide, but that's because she thought she was guilty of murder (well, negligent homicide).

Craig was great!

You misheard. She said that he will die in 10 minutes and show full symptoms in 5 minutes. To this Harlan says that they have 8 minutes left. Later (before she leaves) he says that 6 minutes has passed, no symptoms are shown at this point. Marta stupidly doesn't get what's going on eventhough Harlan basically spells everything out. Harlan immediately initially suspected murder attempt by his grandson by switching the bottles, but he waited 6 minutes to make sure.

reply

I didn't get it until the laundromat scene with Fran. "Wait, why is there more morphine left... OH!"
