I hope they have a good explanation

I need a reasonable explanation as to why the mysterious forces behind the time travel must blow up the plane in front of that group of passengers. If the reason is just as simple as "it has no interest to be investigated," then I don't think the show writers are intellegent and sophisticated enough to provide us a good story.

reply

I disagree, THAT explanation is fine - "it" wanted to hide evidence AND wanted the survivors to know "it" was hiding evidence. As a message to the survivors, it was pretty clear: "you've been warned"

What might be needed is some explanation as to what "it" is. If they'd just managed to get abilities, they might've left it unexplained during the entire series run. But now that there's a clear intentionality behind it all, an explanation seems more appropriate, even necessary.

reply

Your explanation is OK, but just not interesting enough to drive audiences like me to follow the show.

reply

This will be canceled long before answers arrive. But I too took it as a warning.

reply

You could be right, but that remains to be seen.

The premiere pulled in 10 million viewers, which is considered very good for a network drama in 2018, and it has an 84% audience score on RT and a 8/10 on IMDB.

Of course there's no way to know if it will sustain that momentum, but it's quite a good start.

Well, it's an NBC show. They can be surprisingly hang-in-there about some of their programming. They kept the Good Place around even though nobody watches it (and it's great btw)

reply

I actually just read something about The Good Place's ratings the other day. Apparently it's broadcast ratings are lackluster but its doing really well on Netflix, and that's enough to keep it in production.

I guess these days where revenue is coming from multiple directions ratings aren't everything. There was a show on AMC called Halt and Catch Fire that consistently got poor ratings but mysteriously kept getting renewed and lasted four seasons. It was never really explained, but there must have been more to the story than was apparent.

Illuminati!

reply

It's prime time television, written by people who spend their lives watching TV and movies, prepare for disappointment.

reply

Not sure I understand your comment.

reply

Sorry, was being cynical.
