Lasted 10 minutes...

This is NOT Snake Eyes's origin story. Like not a sliver like it. Why couldn't they just update it with the character fighting in the Middle East instead of Vietnam?

I noped out when the bad guys actually threw dice and said, “Snake Eyes. House always wins.” That’s as bad as how Han got his name in Solo....

This was the biggest pile of dogshit I've seen since Shane Black's The Predator from 2018.

I didn't like anything about this movie. The central theme was action, but there was not a single memorable fight scene in the whole film, despite having Iko Uwais in a major role. It was all fast cuts and shaky cams, giving us the impression of something major happening but not letting us see anything.

The cast sucked, right from HG to the Baroness, who could've been done far better by an amateur cosplayer. The main Asian chick looked way below average and had zero charisma. The guy playing Storm Shadow was decent, but the ridiculous plot and weak dialogue finished off any chances he had of salvaging this disaster. Don't even want to get into the aged matriarch literally leaping 20+ feet and manhandling the bad guys along with the 110 lb Samara Weaving taking on 2-3 guys at a time in the final act and beating them up like Steven Seagal lmao!

It was just about everything I could do to keep watching till the end, hoping for something good to happen but never seeing any. I actually like the G.I Joe movies from a few years ago and this one defo made those look like IMDb top 100 movies material.

I totally agree regarding that 2018 Predator movie. That was a hot pile of shit. An absolute embarrassment to the franchise.

However, this movie is not as bad as you make it out to be. I'm not sure if it follows the Joe origins of the characters, but it's not so bad as a standstill action flick. It had the typical cheese like most of it's genre, but the story was pretty good.

Shaky cam has become a major problem in Hollywood. Even movies that have no action tend waiver their camera all over the place when people are in a room discussing nothing important. I don't understand the need for it. It's a deal-breaker for me, and I've turned off many movies because of it.

If you realized just how far off the origin story is from the original (which actually would make for really good movie material) you would realize just how awful this film is. For anyone remotely familiar with Snake Eyes, this movie was a HUGE slap in the face.

Basically, the race swapping killed any chance this film had at being a decent story, since Snake Eyes' race is literally a huge crux of his story, and the origins is as much about redemption for a soldier suffering from heavy PTSD as it is about cultural exchange, adaption, and racism. That was literally why the character was made, but ALL of that got thrown out the window so they could tell one of the worst butchered stories of G.I. Joe imaginable.

Exactly. The G.I Joe movie with Channing Tatum from a few years ago had a short sequence showing how the enmity between Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow started. That alone was far superior to this entire movie. That movie and its sequel with the Rock are way better than this pile of rubbish IMO.

Each to their own, and I have no problem with someone enjoying this movie despite my not liking anything about it.

For me, there wasn't a single action scene that was great or memorable. In fact, thanks to the fast cuts, you couldn't really see any decent moves or sequences. They didn't show the guy get any training, which also put me off quite a bit. So his skills at the beginning of the movie were basically the same at the end because they never showed him train for a decent period of time, despite there being obvious veterans like Iko Uwais and the black dude.

The only character I liked was Storm Shadow, but his turning into a villain was shown in such a weak, inept way that it was hard to accept. I still think that the Snake Eyes origin sequence in the G.I Joe movies with Channing Tatum was far superior to this entire movie (also rate that and its inferior sequel much higher this movie).

I agree that the action scenes could've been better but the story was more interesting than I expected. I am not at all influenced by the GI Joe comics or cartoon since I never read the comics and, while I did watch the cartoon as a kid, I remember nothing about it.

Judging this film on its own merits, I found it to be enjoyable. For me, the enjoyment was less about the action and more about the drama. As I said, I had no preconceived ideas going into the film so Snake Eyes being a double-agent took me by surprise and really helped to draw me into the story. I also thought the depiction of the ninja clan, its ethics, and its operation was cool and well done. And I liked the characters.

Really, I think of this film as more of a "ninja drama" than an "action movie."
