I wonder if this movie will accurately portray African slavery

Africans engaged in slavery for centuries before Europeans arrived. They fought among themselves, captured slaves and sold them to Europeans. Judging from the trailer local Africans are just good guys fighting evil Europeans. The movie also seems to vastly exaggerate the affluence of local African kingdoms in terms of how developed they were.

At pone point in the trailer the woman says "Europeans want to conquer whole of Africa". The ironic thing is that locals at that time didn't have the awareness of the concept of Africa.

That's not entirely accurate. We have no practical way to determine if Sub-Saharan Africans had slavery thousands of years ago.
Possibly not since most tribal societies were stuck on the Stone Age hunter-gatherer stage.

But as soon as there was demand: from the ancient Fertile Crescent civilizations, to Rome, to the insatiable Muslim world - there have always been African people... Sometime the whole tribes whose entire life was dedicated to providing local slaves to foreign powers.

reply

They didn't record their history because they were so backwards, so we'll never know for how ling they had them, but they certainly had slaves when other arrived and started recording their history.

reply

🤣

reply

They didn’t record anything because they had no way to record anything without writing. Imagine that they never invented the wheel either …

The Woman King (2022) (movie): A historical epic that is based in alternate history of The Kingdom of Dahomey, one of the most powerful states of Africa in the 18th and 19th centuries.

ALTERNATIVE HISTORY...CALM YOURSELF.

reply

99% of people won't notice the "alternate history" and will just take it as history. It's designed this way deliberately from woke Hwood.

reply

NO...JUST YOU...YOU'RE A SPECIAL KIND OF BRUISE.

reply

How would people fill if there was an alternative history of the US without slaves?

reply

There are idiots that ask if Anne Boleyn was the first black queen …

reply

Yes, the women king is history of kingdom...for any Tollywood information Visit HYD7AM

Africans are total hypocrites with their own narratives to make out it was the Europeans who enslaved them, the Africans themselves were up to their necks in slavery, and selling their own people to the highest bidder.

reply

Almost everyone knows this. Why are you trying to pretend that we do not?

reply

Oi Ranb, there's never any pretence with me cuntyballs.

reply

Africans created the earliest human beings in history. There are fossils that back this up

reply

Congratulations, they created other humans by fucking. What an achievement.

reply

Yup. Africa gave the world the most important achievement in history

reply

Your "accurately portray African slavery" is just white history as told by colonizers. This movie will rather speak to the black experience.

reply

Nope, it's mainstream history. Some of the facts about Dahome tribe:

Dahome practiced slavery including enslaving children
Dahome practiced genocide against other tribes
Dahome burned villages of other tribes to the ground
Dahome mass executed their prisoners
Dahome conducted mass human ritual sacrifice

History of Africa was written by Whites, because Blacks never wrote their own history.
