Why British actors for foreign characters!?

One thing which makes this good series difficult to watch is passing British actors for French-Canadian, German and Dutch characters. The accents sound horrible for anyone slightly familiar with French, German or Dutch. Monique’s French sounds ridiculous and the acting of the Dutch diplomat with his forced accent and fake smoking verges on comedy. Is it so diffficult to find talented native speakers?

reply

yes british accents are super annoying. they ruined that Chernobyl show with dumb brit accents...

reply

That "Dutch" accent was horrible.

reply

It was made by a UK production company for the BBC.

reply

I see! That solves everything! The UK companies can’t hire none-British actors, right?! #sarc

reply

Oh no how dare a British funded TV company that is aired in Britain hire British actors.

Oh the humanity.

reply

Exactly! Hire British actors only, even for female roles a British male would be prefreable to a foreign actress. Who cares about accents, we are Brits and don’t understand anything apart from English anyway!

reply

Most of what you put is nonsensical.

Why would it not be in English if it is aimed at an English speaking country. Strange response.

reply

Your comment is nonsensical because you haven’t read the comments! Who said that they should have made the movie in other languages?! The discussion is about fake accents of British actors that make the series look like Allo! Allo!

reply

Right. Why hire actors to pretend to be other people when you can just hire the real people to be themselves?
