Its not suppose to happen till billions of years from now

Beginning around 5 billion years from now, the Sun will expand, becoming a swollen star called a red giant. By 7.5 billion years in the future, its surface will be past where Earth's orbit is now. So the expanding Sun will engulf, and destroy, the Earth

Yeah, well, it looks like Earth is going to go out about 4,999,999,900 years before the sun, at this rate.

This doesnt sound like a believable premise for a film, it even sound more ludicrous than the tractor cities of "Mortal Engines"!

reply

Hence.... movie. Science fiction movie at that. Eh.

I think there are a LOT of problems with this film.

The premise is ridiculous. Even in the film you can see the atmosphere being siphoned off as the earth travels - it would be completely gone way prior to its arrival at the final destination.

Then they blast the Jupiter's atmosphere - that's another cataclysmic event - but funnily enough, even the peeps in the middle of that blast survived - haha

There were plenty of deaths and dramatic sacrifices akin to Armageddon - plenty of similar dumb moments as well -
the editing was pretty crappy - and the science in this film was pure fantasy at best.

In the movie "Sunshine," the sun is dying out, also within this century, and people are sent to fix it.

If you become fixated on the premise, you won't be able to enjoy the movie.

reply

To be fair - I didn't particularly enjoy sunshine.

The problem is most of the characters were unlikeable. Gramps was cool. Father was ok. Wang Lei and the Russian were cool. The son was permanently angry. That girl was annoying as hell. The rest were too undeveloped.
