Does anyone feel like this show is saying that the rich are spoiled and we should always root for the middle class?

I feel like they're trying to make the Larrusos come off as bad people just because they're rich. It's not like Daniel was born into luxury. He earned his own dealership. He worked hard for it. And I'm tired of fans acting like we should already label Sam as spoiled just because she has money and we should love Tory because she doesn't. Tory is a psycho! I don't care about her whole philosophy on fighting for what is yours. She could have killed Sam with that bracelet of hers! I feel like Miguel was feeling that way about dating Sam acting like because he doesn't have money that she would think above him. Sure in the beginning, she came off as spoiled in the fact that she was hanging out with the popular kids instead of nice girls like Aisha, but later in the series, she stops with those people and is her own person. I feel like that whole hate the rich philosophy worked for the 80s since that was a common trope. But now, it seems outdated for a modern show like this.

I think part of the fun of this show is that Daniel who was the hero in the films is the bad guy now and Johnny who was the rich kid villain in the film is now the downtrodden victim. I like how it messes with things.

Daniel isn't the bad guy in the show.

If you look closer, despite their changes in circumstances, Daniel and Johnny are both victims of Cobra Kai in different respects.

reply

They can both be as bad as each other but Daniel definitely pushed things at the start when he could have just let it go.

Daniel couldn't let go Cobra Kai's return. It makes sense, seeing as the last time he encountered Cobra Kai, it was a criminal enterprise that threatened to murder him, rape his friend, and kill his and Mr. Miyagi's business. And that's not even considering the fact that Cobra Kai generated gangs of bullies. Daniel has every right to be upset about Cobra Kai's return and try to stop it.

Now the way he went about it was definitely off the rails (raising the rent on the whole strip mall). I chalk that up to Daniel seeing red and not considering the collateral damage.

Given Daniel has far surpassed Johnny he should just be happy with what he has. They almost became friends when they were in the car listening to old 80's tunes.

reply

Daniel's beef is with Cobra Kai returning, not Johnny personally.

To Daniel, stopping kids from joining Cobra Kai is the same as stopping kids from joining gangs, and he's not far off. It's not a vendetta to him, it's a responsibility.

Larruso is not bad because he's rich. He's bad because he's a self-righteous, arrogant prick who thinks he has the right to tell others how to live their lives. Being rich probably feeds his delusion that he is superior.
