Lips/hawk : A fascinating character arc

I think the character who changed the most from the 1st episode to the second is him. Yeah he turned into a a bit of an obnoxious douche bag (Although a funny one) but still it was really interesting to see that character development. I love that the show was not afraid to develop it's character the other way around to show that characters does not automatically change in a positive way and that self confidence can grow into vanity if we are not careful.

He totally forgot he had that tattoo on his back.

reply

While I liked him. Too unbelievable that he was in the semi-finals of the tournament.

reply

Yeah, that's where you have to suspend disbelief because it's ridiculous to think of characters becoming black belts in what? 6 months?

reply

Yeah I agree about the black belt part being a bit on the nose, I really meant his emotional transformation was interesting. Making him a black belt was a little ridiculous..

He essentially turned into Dutch. Notice how he was throwing the Milk Duds at the girls, just like Dutch did?

And I definitely agree with your point that the characters don't automatically change in a positive way. At the tournament, you can clearly see the students are growing beyond Johnny's control and getting too wild and aggressive. I think in the next season it's going to a pose a problem for Johnny, especially with Kreese coming back.

Fascinating indeed, but it did seem rather unrealistic.

reply

Haha True but Ill give it a pass as we are talking about the Karate kid after all, the crane kick is not very realistic either. ?Unrealistic but fun and fascinating as I always liked when a character makes a flip change personality wise, keep things interesting
