Super Boring & Overrated

Heard a lot of buzz about the film. Watched it and don't understand the high rating??? I love sci-fi, so always looking for the next great indie flick (last great one I enjoyed was Ex Machina). This film was not it though.

Acting was good, characters were good, but the pacing was awful! It was just so talky, slow and boring. Not sure why it's such a critical darling. I really should start looking more closely at Rotten Tomatoes "user ratings" as a companion to the "critics ratings". 62% vs 92% current, the prior being more fitting.

It was superb.

It was a film made for $700,000 that couldn't rely on action. It had to be character driven with a great deal of dialogue.

If it wasn't to your tastes then move on. But we need movies like this.

Indeed, OP would probably derive more enjoyment from the fine cinematic masterworks of such celebrated directors as Michael Bay and Roland Emmerich.

Most of the time when people use the term "pacing" it ends up being such an empty and meaningless critique.

Agreed.

I disagree.

Yeah this movie was a snoozefest. It was basically a bunch of characters sitting around talking about some "sound" they heard. We don't actually see anything interesting until the final shot and even that wasn't that impressive. Also the two stories by the old man and old woman just dragged on way too long.

I enjoyed the characters and set up. The long take was well done. It was as nice change of pace from the modern jumpscare horrors we tend to see a lot of.

If you're not a fan, you're not alone. A fellow soldier of mine felt the same. It's all good.

I disagree, and think it was very good!

A little late to the party, but just watched this last night. I loved the cinematography, long tracking shots, atmosphere and tone of the entire movie. It was different and engrossing, even with the minor letdown of an ending. But I can see why many people found it boring since its not a Marvel or a Fast/Furious flick.
