Can't stand those alternative universe resurrections...

Either have the courage to kill a character permanently or not. It's such a cop-out for them to kill Gamora and say she's gone, but then introduce her from another timeline. If you want the character back, then have them brought back, not a different version of them that eliminates all the previous actions of the character.

I watch The Magicians and it's the same with one of the characters, they killed him off and brought back another version and they act like it's the same dude in terms of his interactions and it seems dumb.

I want Gamora back on any terms..

She's back. As alternative universe Gamora, so we have to see her and Quill fall in love again and then after GG3 act like she is the same character with the same history with the team. It's what happens. And it's absurd.

One thing about the Guardian films is that fans like the team..they're invested in the team. They'd be foolish to tear it apart at this point. So suffer it however you see fit.
More fans want it intact.

Star Trek Deep Space Nine did the same thing when the original Chief O'Brien died and was replaced by his future self.

Star Trek Voyager did the same thing when the original Ensign Kim died and was replaced by his alternate self.

It's so stupid when they do that, because the original characters are dead, and for some reason writers seem to think that alternate characters are the same characters, when they are not--they have an ENTIRELY different consciousness. Basically my only gripe about DS9/VOY, otherwise fantastic shows.

If you replaced someone with a slightly older double the change would be insignificant. For all intents and purposes, it's them - after going on a short trip and coming back. If they were suddenly ten years out of sync that would be significant no matter what. But if you haven't seen someone in a month are they different people? Every day we wake up we are a little different than the previous day. Hell, every second we've changed a tiny little bit from the previous moment. When the changes have added up to an older version of us is kind of an arbitrary thing.

Look at it this way. From the instant before your potential death some futures are open and others aren't. You yourself can only go down a path where your consciousness continues to exist - and at least one of those paths eventually leads you back around to the same moment, perhaps standing only a few feet away. So you aren't really two different people. With multiple yous from different futures things are less clear. Who's the most real you? The one who's changed the least? Time travel screws with your head. That's why I only do it when absolutely necessary. 😎

I agree with your basic premise. However, a point of correction:

>>>

IRRC (and I may be remembering incorrectly) Harry Kim wasn't replaced by an alternate version of himself. If I recall the episode correctly, Voyager was split into two versions. So, technically, both versions of Kim were the original and only one came out alive.

If I'm remembering the episode incorrectly then I'm back to agreeing with you. Its a cop-out.

Comics have been doing it for decades
