Why Can't DC Figure It Out?

The blueprint is right there in the MCU. Why do they make one terrible movie after another?

reply

I was thinking the same. I feel like they try so hard NOT to have their movies be so similar to the point it hurts. Subtract the cheesiness, leave the rest in, add a bit more grit, and you're golden. All in all though it's the writing that suffers. These movies draaaaag.

reply

Admittedly, I've stopped watching them, but from the ones I did watch, and the reviews/reactions to subsequent films, it seems their entire franchise is in a tailspin. The only exception has been the new Batman film, which is about as good a superhero film as I've ever seen. In large part I attribute that to it existing in its own realm, like the Joker film, rather than being part of their "extended universe," I believe they are calling it. It's also Batman himself. I think the Batman character lends itself to cinema in a way no other superhero does. But then, it's also casting great actors-- Pattinson, Dano, Farrell, Turturro, Wright, etc.-- instead of The Rock, Zachary Levi, or Jon Cena.

reply

Agreed, it's absolutely baffling. I just got out of seeing this and it was basically everything I don't want from a superhero film. It's basically just 2 hours of punching with characters that have all the emotional depth of a puddle.

Kind of reminded me of that Michael Bay film 6 undeground in that it's just constant dizzying action, zero plot and zero reason to care about any of the characters or who is punching who.

reply

zero plot and zero reason to care about any of the characters or who is punching who.

There was a plot somewhere in there. Just not one we the audience could enough of.

reply

Yeah, it was buried beneath all the spectacle. Also far too many supporting characters that were all underdeveloped.

reply

Definitely. The movie could've been narrowed down to Fate and Black Adam. It probably would've been miles better too with that level of simplicity.

reply

Agreed, it was so overstuffed for a 2 hour origin film.

reply

Why even bother going? You must have known beforehand what you were going to get. I gave up on films like this a loooong time ago.

reply

A friend works in my local cinema and got us free tickets for it but yeah I definitely should have known The Rock and his overinflated ego wouldn't stand a chance at producing a decent superhero film, especially when you have the writer of Rampage on the screenplay.

That is also the problem with DC, not only do they fail to emulate what makes the MCU films so great but they also hire crappy screenwriters as well. So much clunky exposition in this dumpster fire.

reply

Wait ... this is a thread critical of the movie and the OP didn't even see it? I don't disagree with the sentiment, as DC has been very bad outside a handful of films. But why post this when you HAVE NOT SEEN IT? Makes OP seem like one of those Marvel-vs-DC warriors that everyone likes and trusts.

reply

Sometimes you don't need to see a film to know it isn't wort seeing, and this is a clear cut case of one of those time.

reply

THAT IS INCORRECT. NOEMOJI

reply

So one must see every movie that comes out?

reply

Should a food critic taste the food?

reply

Sure, and if I were being paid to critique films, I'd see any film I wrote about. But as a film-goer, I have to decide what to see and what not to see.

reply

NOT FOR YOU...FINE...DON'T WATCH IT...BUT...IF YOU DON'T WATCH IT...YOU KEEP YOUR OPINIONS ON THE THING YOU HAVE NOT SEEN OR WILL EVER SEE TO YOURSELF AS THEY ARE BULLSHIT EMPTY OPINIONS. NOEMOJI

reply

No, I'll continue to come here to this public forum and share my opinions. You're welcome to discuss them with me, but what's the point of telling me to shut up and keep my opinions to myself? It may be that you type with all caps, but you seem so enraged whenever you disagree with someone.

reply

YOU MISUNDERSTAND...YOU CAN TALK ALL YOU LIKE HERE...NOBODY WOULD EVEN TRY TO STOP YOU...BUT...WE NOW KNOW YOU TO BE FULL OF SHIT...SO NOBODY WILL LISTEN EITHER WAY. NOEMOJI

reply

There you go again with the misplaced rage and unwarranted rudeness.

reply

I DO NOT KNOW YOU THUS YOU ARE NOT WORTH MY RAGE...YOU MISUNDERSTAND THE REST THOUGH...IT IS NOT RUDENESS...IT IS HONESTY...YOU COMMENT ON THINGS YOU DO NOT KNOW ABOUT OR HAVE NOT SEEN...THAT MAKES YOU AND YOUR POSTS QUESTIONABLE AT BEST. NOEMOJI

reply

I made a very straightforward comment that the DC films are consistently perceived as being terrible films. This is not some "hot take" or an attempt to do a "deep dive" into a topic. It's simply an observation. If you find my posts questionable, then you're free to ignore them, but I can't understand why you feel the need to post all over Moviechat directing insults, and what certainly seems like rage, at strangers who are doing nothing more than sharing opinions.

If you think I'm wrong, and the general consensus is that the DC films are great, then go ahead and say so. Maybe we can even have a polite discussion about it. But instead, you chime in with your typical ALL CAPS, YOU ARE SO FULL OF SHIT YOUR OPINIONS ARE MEANINGLESS responses. Talk about questionable posts... you are the king of them on this site.

reply

I STOPPED READING ABOUT HALFWAY....KNOW THIS...NOBODY OF VALUE FINDS ME TO BE INSULTING OR RAGE FILLED...ONLY ASSHOLES AND TROLLS...WHICH ONE ARE YOU? NOEMOJI

reply

Allergic to surprises.
I'll bet you hated it even before you saw a trailer.

reply

I'd never heard of it until I saw a commercial for it on TV. And no, I love being surprised, and I'll see movies of all sorts. That doesn't mean I'm going to go see everything that comes out, and some films are obviously not the sort of film I'll enjoy. One has to pick and choose from what's out there.

reply

That's a totally fair statement. And yet you start a post accusing this movie of being terrible. No one said you have to see everything. It's an odd defense against being called out for criticizing something you have not seen.

Don't get me wrong. It isn't a great film. It feels better than it really is due to the traditionally low quality from DC. I give it a 6 though it is probably more of a 5.

Look, I understand your stance. I wouldn't expect the next Madea movie to be good. But what do I know? Why would I go to a Madea movie board to make some claim that he still hasn't figured it out? Maybe he finally did. I just don't care to find out.

Had you used speculative wording then I wouldn't be taking you to task. Instead of opinion and probability, you took an authoritative stance.

reply

I haven't seen a lot of films that are generally considered terrible, but I feel that I can call them terrible movies.

reply

Now that Marvel is sucking DC is starting to look good to me again. At least they don't have all the silliness that Marvel keeps spewing out. DC does have to settle in one continuity though. Therlir tv shows and movies are a mess in regards to that...

Warner Bros clearly needs an enema via mass firings, they still couldn't find their own asses with both hands.
