Fun movie but oh so dumb

The movie was fun action but oh so dumb.

For instance their plan revolves around getting the tablet and using that to stop the fire safety systems. The Rock who has the tablet finds this out andddd keeps the tablet. Rather than you know destroying it straight away to make sure it can’t be used.

Also why did they need to wait till the Rock had the tablet? They had not one but TWO people working on the inside. You’re telling me not one of those two people could have gotten access to the safe that held the drive the bad guys actually wanted?

Not to mention it seems they had control of the guy who picked who would check the building safety. Why didn’t he just you know pick a guy the bad guys had control of?

Also where in the Rocks history are we ever shown he has any sort of background for building safety? We know he has specialised training in hostage and combat, but nothing that really suggested he was an person you would use to check over your fire safety controls. He’s the guy you get to make sure your building is safe from attack and a security consultant.

Also wtf was the point of the leg? Honestly could have removed it and made no difference to the story.

Also you are one of the richest men in the world and somehow are able to be extorted by this guy? Admittly the bad guy had decent power (well the people he worked with do). But overall he should have laughed in his face and just brought the cops in. You’re rich as all hell, just hire outside contractors and private security. Bring enough heat down on the guy from cops and your own people, that it will cost them more money and time to extort you than it’s worth. That’s the point about being super rich, you are a target but you have the means money and power to protect yourself.

Just amazingly dumb movie. I was still entertained as a dumb action flick. But really really really had to shut my brain off for this one.

It is as worse than dumb: it was when insultingly dumb. In a world so high-tech, the best strategy they could concoct required arson, physical assault, kidnapping and gunplay? Really? Nobody thought to plant an agent in the tycoon’s entourage and have her/him located and crack the safe, and steal the McGuffin? Sheesh.

The only thing they got right is that duct tape can fix anything; well duct tape sometines teamed with Krazy Glu. The writers must have watched The A-Team when they were children.

"Duct Tape is like the Force; it has a light side and a dark side, and holds the universe together".

The tablet was a unique administrative access specifically designed for safety inspection and no other such tablet existed. This is why it required biometrics, which as it turns out were easy to fool because biometrics are shit safety features. The safe code was known only by Zhao and noone else.

It is pretty common for retired spec ops/FBI/etc guys to go into security business, consultant being one of them. We know that many years have passed since the accident (had kids that grew up) so he had ample time for training in the field.

>Also you are one of the richest men in the world and somehow are able to be extorted by this guy?

Having money does not stop criminal syndicates from operating against you. Would it work that way governments (the richest thing around) would have destroyed them long ago.

They had two people on the inside and one got to make the recommendation as he put the rock forth for the role. He could have put anyone forth. Also you still have two people on the inside, both with high level access. Seems getting time to find the safe and maybe crack a password for it could have been possible.

Yet we never get that. It is not hard at all to show him rather than a hostage background, a fire department background. His history does not fit with the role we see him doing later. I agree security consultant work is fine, but they gave him a super super specific role, but then showed his history and past being a hostage and combat specilist not anything to do with fire security. It would have more sense and flowed better to have a story where he is the security consultant for security.

Governments are massievly different to a private enterprise. A multi billion dollar private individual definetely has the money needed to over power the criminal aspect. He would have enough power that if they did interfere he just goes and hire the best private security around and makes sure his employees are protected. Or someone that powerful definetely has powerful friends and just makes a phonecall being like "Hey bob these guys are giving me a hard time, can you maybe make sure the police force does their job and tells these guys to back off before I really make their lives hell".

Also the government is not the richest thing around, they do not have unlimited funds and the money has to go into specific areas. That is the reason crime families and gangs have so much power because they have more money than most government officials and more money than the police being used to try and capture them. Very very very wrong thinking by you there to make any comparison to government and the government being "rich".

He could have put any security company forward, but he chose a small (apperently one-man-team) company whose owner trusted him. Id say as far as picking a victim goes it was a pretty good pick.

I think its fair to assume they have tried to find it on their own and failed. Also there was this whole thing about forcing the guy see his greatest creation burn, it wasnt just about the data, it was also about revenge/spite.

He was a SWAT guy that flunked out because he made a mistake. He still knew security, but he couldnt work the job anymore due to his disability. Being a security consultant made sense. Being a fireman with a prosthetic leg would be ludicrous. They would not let you do the work, at least not one at the actual firesite. The SWAT background was to set up his high proficiency with weaponry, character building, even if its not done that well.

you are extremely naive if you think thats how being rich works.

Actually governments are arguably the only ones around with unlimited funds, given that they are the only entity to legally print money. You think a rich guy has a resources to threaten a yakuza but government does not have resources to arrest them? You do realize most organized crime has moved to digital crime nowadays because the physical one became risky due to governments action, right?

No it’s not because he got to PICK aka he could PICK A TEAM THAT IS ALREADY ON HIS SIDE. There is no need to pick anyone who isn’t already a part of the plan.

Why? We see nothing in the movie that suggests that at all. It honestly wasn’t exactly the worlds most well hidden object. At some point it would have been built and out there. You’re saying that there are no records no nothing that these two people could have done to trace it. I mean they are able to be in positions close enough to the guy that they could essentially kill him at any moment so obviously his background checks may be lacking.

By not done well you mean makes no sense to his qualifications and as such makes his character seem Shallow, sure.

You are extremely naive if you think that’s not how being rich can work when you are talking in the billions and billions of dollars range. Not for what he was going through anyway.

...... wow. Ok I’m done you literally just proved why everything you had said is dumb and you are likely a high schooler or younger who doesn’t have a clue. Honest to god actual go do some studies mate because your knowledge has very clearly only come from movies. Jesus.

When you pick a fall guy you dont let him in on the plan.

If i remember correctly some of the dialogue does indicate that they could not find it and as such are demanding that the guy brings it to them. Maybe you are overvaluing the reach of the badguys.

It does makes sense. His qualifications ARE fit for security contractor and on top of that in the timeframe of his retirement he could have acquired new qualifications.

You think you can just throw money and the bad guys go away. You are the highschooler without a clue here.

reply

Everything you say continually is wrong and you are the obvious high schooler or younger.

I don't think it was even that fun.. it's so over the top that it becomes ridiculous. Every scene that was supposed to be suspenseful was just laughable. I guess it kinda works as a comedy so it did have some fun moments in a way.

reply

Like most over-the-top action movies. It’s best to throw logic out the window.
