Is this like Love Simon?

From the trailer this seems super close to Love Simon. Any one saw it. Would you say it's better or worse than Love Simon or it is so different that there is no need for comparing the two?

They are almost like parallel films; same tone, tenor and subject matter. I'd watch both. Both are enjoyable, but I like this one just a bit better. A little less cutesy with the dialogue and banter and slightly more realistic (a little less romantic-comedy-ish).

I definitely recommend it. I enjoyed both but this was better. It was rawer and had a lot more funny moments than Love, Simon. Also, there are a couple of gay kissing scenes in this movie that just felt super authentic, like triumphantly authentic, especially in the end. I don't know if the actors in this movie are gay IRL or not but they really went for it. In Love, Simon you can definitely tell Nick Robinson is NOT gay IRL. He's one of many straight actors who do the "closed mouth kiss" as I see it when it comes to gay kissing scenes. Avoid the tongue at all costs if you know what I mean.

I saw the film now and I agree with you all. Both films are great, however I did relate to Alex Strangelove more for the same reasons as you guys mentioned. As much as I loved "Love Simon" it is not hard to tell Nick Robinson was straight. However the main actor of Alex Strangelove was also straight but he did a much more believable job.

I thought Love Simon was better. This one concentrated too much on Alex and his girlfriend. I would have liked to see more of Alex and the male love interest.

This movie made me roll my eyes a lot more than Love Simon. Too much cringe millennial speak going on.
