This production is flat and for the most part quite dull. I suppose you could look at the BBC as another clear example of the decline in Western Civilisation. Australia's ABC has become just as bad. They aren't worth the expense any more.

The BBC has been doing better more well made stuff in the last ten years then it has ever done.

The books are excellent, this adaptation feels rather stripped of the more fantasy elements.

The Queen’s Gambit started strongly, went nowhere in the middle, and had a decent last episode.

The beautiful paradox is that your comment shows how good the BBC used to be: they created a scifi cult classic with cardboard sets and actors in rubber suits.

I mean, let that sink: for all the babbling about white privilege, all they had back then was cardboard sets and actors in rubber suits and they still managed to create a fucking scifi classic.
