Question about the plot (about her)

We learn Eliza is found by a river as an infant. Cannot talk and have scars on her neck.

These turn in the gills later.

So my questions: hue?

Is she a lagoon creature herself, is she evolved from such creatures? Are many walking amongst us? Or is it simple showing this creature giving her powers because it can? Anyone?

reply

I took it as the monster use her scars and turnt it into a “gift”

I am pretty sure that she could talk when she was young, and then she suffered some unspecified violence which left her unable to talk and with those scars.

they specifically mention she was found by a river as an infant and so I wonder if it was merely straight forward as you say or more complicated. If they wanted to tell this story you mention, why even have such unknown origin scares and the story of her "river birth"... ? I guess it can go either way.... when I watched it was on your side.... now, I am leaning more to the other.... Idk.... seem most see it as you,

The implication is that she was - at least to some degree - related to a member of his species. Mostly human with a bit of fish creature DNA thrown in for the mix. It probably accounts not only for their intense attraction but also for her underdeveloped gills (which were thought to be scars) and her obsession with water.

Alternatively, she was just a traumatized baby who grew up to be a somewhat socially stunted adult (or something) and happens to develop a kinship with the fish creature and have interspecies sex with him.
