other action series more deserving of the crazy success of the Fast & Furious series

I.e, getting bigger and bigger each movie and big stars wanting to appear for them ..i dont think F&F truely deserves this. its such a meaningless throwaway series lol

heres some series that have suffered hard times alot more deserving imo

Star Trek (JJ Abrams movies) - should be on about their 6th movie now, and grossing 1b

Terminator - maybe continuing the Salvation timeline with Christian Bale and gradually reintroducing Arnold, Robert Patrick and Michael Biehn over T5, 6 etc

Alien - prequels getting bigger, as well as the Aliens sequel with Weaver/Biehn

Expendables - This is the Avengers style action movies that shouldve really had the F&F success. Ex3 shouldve been better (esp with Mel and Ford joining) and had bigger success leading to Ex4,5,6 etc (Ex4 is happening but just going to be stdvd/stream quality BS)

James Bond.
Tron.

Star Trek really blew it with Beyond, which ironically was made by the same guy who turned F&F into the mega franchise it now is...

Bond has already achieved the crazy F&F success with Craig but who knows if it will continue (probably)

Tron could have if they hadnt given up on Tron 3 (Disney was no doubt focusing on buying Star Wars), but supposedly they are doing Tron 3 now ..

Star Trek TOTALLY blew it with Beyond. Into Darkness had been well recieved by movie audiences (not so much a few vocal fans) and was the biggest Trek movie at that point (not adjusted which would probably be The Motion Picture) but then instead of building on that movie with a war with the klingons, or dealing with the timelines/bringing back Shatner as original Kirk (which was the original idea for the 3rd movie - a villian wants to destroy the Kelvin timeline with a timetravel device) they fired the writer of the previous 2 films Roberto Orci, brought in Pegg to make it abit kooky like Spaced meets Guardians, and Justin Lin as director to make it more like Fast & Furious with crazy action and motorbike stunts lol

Yeah, it's funny how these franchises were effected by the Disney Star Wars buy out. That doesn't happen and JJ probably makes Star Trek 3. Disney don't get Star Wars so maybe they double down on trying to make Tron a bigger success... I guess in some parallel universe that happens and we don't get the debacle of the Disney trilogy either!

I made the Bond point as that's a funny what might have been as well - I saw the other day that the F&F films have both made more at the Box Office and been more profitable than the Bond films since Daniel Craig took over.

That gets me wondering if the F&F success is due to filling in a hole in the market for outrageous stunts and fun entertainment the Bond films left behind when they decided to go full Bourne.

Yes thats an interesting point. the Disney take over fubar'd Star Wars, Trek and Tron! (and John Carter). So if no Disney SW Lucas probably makes the sequel trilogy himself under LucasFilm/Fox (obviously totally different to the Disney versions but probably just as divisive, he directs first one but he gets others to direct second/third like the original trilogy), then Trek 3 is directed by Abrams (the Orci script with Shatner, Orci was probably only fired bc Abrams wasn't there anymore), and since no SW Disney has to risk doing Tr3n and John Carter 2 lol.

And yeah thats an interesting point about Bond as well, Craig going all uber serious like Bourne/Dark Knight opened the door for Fast (and MI) to go more fun

Mission: Impossible movies. It's crazy they have not yet crossed the billion dollar mark.

MI7 should break 1b. MI6 got to 800 (like F&F. MIs been increasing each film 4 onwards) and cruise coming off Top Gun 2 crazy 1.5b

Hollywood has never been in better position for a series of Highlander movies than it is right now. Total justifiable source material for insane over the top stunts with invincible characters defying death and laying down all manner of whoop ass against each other. All this insane stuff we're seeing with Fast and John Wick and superheroes can all be laid into the framework of the Highlander saga. Massive cast of characters. Epic adventures spanning millennia. It could easily support ten films and more.

yeh good call Highlander is perfect for a remake as the movies series imploded into nothingness, Lambert is way too old now etc.. , a total remake of HL1 and intergrating some of the tv series lore to make it even bigger (but nothing from the sequels Planet Zeist etc lol).. Cavill or Hemsworth as Connor MacLeod, Liam Neeson as Ramiez, Momoa as The Kurgan

For me, the Missing in Action trilogy with Chuck Norris is the best action series

Lethal Weapon - couldve continued with Mel and Danny in the 2000s LW5, 6, 7 etc each one getting bigger than the last, more outlandish stunts, new crazy characters. Murtagh ending up as head of the police force 'im too old for this bullshit police work!' as Riggs continues to go nuts on the streets with a new younger partner (not Chris Rock)
